What is a Mosin M44?

I don't have a clue, I've been told that they sell for $50 to $75. I am looking for an inexpensive gun this month; what is this thing, a bolt action, semi-auto, or what. Can you build a rifle from the action like you can a Mauser? Any help will be appreciated.

Hi, 4V50Gary,

The noise ain't fun either even with good quality muffs. Without them it's nasty.

Little History Here:

M1944 Carbine:
AUSTRIA/HUNGARY

Bolt Action Rifle, 1891 introduced.

A/H forces on the Eastern front captured sizeable quantities of Russian rifles, and also received large numbers taken by the Germans.

Guns in A/H service were issued with Russian ammunition. When supplies began to run short, some guns were converted in the Wiener-Neustadt armory for the standard rimmed 8X50mm Austrian round.

I have the assem/disassem if you would care to have them.
