what is a "light contour" barrel?

Hi all,

As I'm looking for a good, all-purpose-target-shooting replacement barrel for my 870P, I noticed some of the Wingmaster barrels come in "Standard Contour", "Light Contour", or just regular. What is the difference, and are there particular uses for each?

Thanks!

Chris

P.S. I beleive I've settled on a 28" vent rib Wingmaster barrel with RemChoke, but I'm not sure which type of "contour" to get.

Also... on the Remington website, it says these barrels come with a Bradley Front Sight. What kind of sight is that? Thanks.

The light contour bbl would be 'thinner', therefore lighter.
It's a matter of weight and swing, whatever you like.

I would call Remington to confirm what I said and ask how much "lighter" is the bbl. Best way is to "feel" the difference if you can.

If it were me, without "feeling the difference", in 28", I would go with the standard bbl for clay targets. If you went 30"+, then I would consider the light version.

Good luck.

There's 3 30" 870 barrels here, a ribless field model with Full Choke, a Trap barrel with standard rib and IM choke and an LC with Remchokes.

The Trap barrel weighs 2 lbs, 6 oz , the Field barrel 2 lbs, 4 oz, and the LC 2 lbs 2 oz.

With the LC on the 870TB here, it's clearly more lively. Mostly it's on another 870,Frankenstein, which runs less O/A and is used for hunting as much as clays.

I've a 26" LC barrel on yet another 870 for upland hunting. I find myself overswinging a bit unless I concentrate on just using this 870 to groove in my mount and swing.

IMO, it boils down to personal preference.

HTH....

Are the LC barrels 2 3/4" only? I could probably look this up at Remington but I was already in this thread. :D
Mike

Thanks. I've only seen 1100 barrels in person.
In a totally unrelated topic, just bought Dad an 1100 Sport with a 30" LC barrel. Can hardly wait for Christmas now!
