What is a kit gun?

I was looking on the S&W site and noticed that a few guns of a given model are available as a kit gun. What is a kit gun?

I think it's a gun that you throw into a "kit". A tackle box, glove compartment, hunting vest, etc.

For years I thought it was something that you could put together yourself like a firearms version of Leggos
Between the two World Wars fishermen and hunters used kit bags to carry their outdoor necessities, which often included a small handgun.

unfortunately they don't make them anymore but if you ever find a M-63 buy it. you won't be sorry. I don't don't know how many rounds have been through mine but it is several thousand
