What is a good price?

Well I am starting to think about my next purchase.

But to do so I need to do some major money management.

This is what I have,
CZ 452
EnField
M1 Garand

Next I think a shotgun would be nice (followed by a handgun when 21).

But because of my eyes I shoot left handed.

The option I am looking at is a Browning BPS Hunter 28 inch (tried a friends and liked it). It will mainly be used for informal clays and maybe hunting if I get the opportunity. It would be really nice to have the "double bead" on the rib, as in one bead about half way down and one at the end but not many seem to have that.

I looked at the Remington 870 Express left handed but after getting familiar with my friends right handed one the BPS just blew it away in terms of being so much smoother and I just preferred the Browning.

Now what is a good price for one new (never owned a "new gun")? I see the prices all over the place.

I dont plan on blasting 3.5 inch shells, but I can see 3 inch ones once and while. I hear that is you have a 3.5 inch chamber it does not preform aswell with 3 inch shells but I do not know how true that really is.

The other option was a used Remington 1100 G3 left handed 28inch 12 gauge used. But I used a friends 1100, it had the youth stock and was a 20ga but it just felt like a tooth pick and just put me off of them...

If you like the BPS, then that is what you should get; otherwise, you'll be second-guessing yourself. Another option is the Ithaca 37, also a bottom-ejector. As a LH myself, I have a 1100 that is a RH gun, and it doesn't present any issues, although I do prefer my O/U and SxS guns

For the over under I would rather wait till I had some real money and more experience before I shell out for one of those (bad pun).

For ballpark prices, you can often look online and expect to pay a little more in most stores than the lowest prices you see online. It looks like you could expect to pay around $450-500 for the BPS.

A used model would be less of course. How much less would depend on condition. I've never bought a used gun, but people who own more guns and know more about guns that I do are in favor of buying used, so it's probably worth considering.

As for the left-handed issue, I shoot left-handed, but every rifle, shotgun, and handgun I've owned or shot has been right-handed. I don't think I'd like a right-handed bolt action (or a right-handed bullpup :D) but semi-autos and pumps are fine.

The BPS is a very good choice for a leftie ...because its cast neutral - and since it ejects out of the bottom - you won't have hulls and gas blowing by your face.

Street price for new guns around here is about $ 525 / used ones in good condition are around $ 400.

The BPS Hunter, in 28", is the pump gun I've relied on for over 35 yrs ....and I still have them in 12ga and 20ga.

You will not find any of the Hunter models with a mid-rib bead out of the factory. You'll have to have a gunsmith install that mid-rib bead - but its relatively cheap and quick to do.

The BPS Hunter model does not come in 3 1/2 " chambers / but in my opinion, a 3" chamber is just fine and it should meet all your needs.

There isn't any change in performance if you buy a 3 1/2" chamber gun and shoot 3" shells in it ( or if you shoot 2 3/4" shells in a gun chambered in 3" )...
