I have a Taurus 605 that is a good gun but I really don't like shooting .357s out of it and if I will only shoot .38s and +Ps I'd rather have a lighter .38 only gun. I have been thinking about selling this for some time and I think I've finally decided to go ahead and do so. My only real concern about selling is the trigger. The trigger on this thing is sweet and I'd worry that one of the other guns may not even be close. However, I don't shoot it much and the lighter weight of any of the .38 only guns (esp. the aluminum ones) really do make this gun impractical if I won't be shooting .357s. I probably won't replace it for a few months because I'm not sure what I want (I may get a new Taurus 85 or 85UL but I'll also be on the lookout for a nice used Colt Agent, Detective Special, or Cobra or a nice used S&W 36, 37 or .38 only 60LS). I am leaning towards a used gun (even if I go with a Taurus- if I can find a used Taurus 85/85UL) so I'll probably keep the money from the sale in my pocket for a couple months in case I come across something.
So, what price should I be looking for? I may sell on consignment at a local store (it is hard to sell a gun yourself in MD because no local newpapers will carry classified ads for guns and because the transfer laws are a pain- you and the buyer must show up to the state police barracks with the gun) or for time I may just sell to the store outright (less money but I'll have it sooner in case I run into a good deal). Would it be better to wait and sell on consignment even if I may lose a good deal by not having the $, or would speed be more important? I'd like to have the money in case I see a deal, and the loss of a few bucks won't bother me that much (esp. since this gun probably won't be worth that much anyway so it will probably only be a small difference, especially when the consignment fee is considered).
