What is a "Carry Hammer"?

I am not a wheel-gun fan, but I traded for a SP-101 with a custom, "carry hammer." The gun has a hammer, but it's much smaller than a regular one, and I'm trying to figure out what the advantage is.

I figured you guys in the "revolver section" would know and love the chance to share your knowledge.

The "carry hammer" reduces the chance of getting the hammer snagged in your clothing and fouling your draw, but still allows cocking the gun for single action shooting.

"Hammerless" (actually hammer spur-less) guns pretty well eliminate any snagging, but have no single action capability at all.

Standard, full sized hammer spurs are easy to cock single action, but are very easy to get snagged.

The "carry hammer" is an attempt at a happy in-between.

Your pic shows a bobbed hammer which is most often how you hear them referred to. Bobbing can completely remove the hammer spur or leave it as yours is. The edges should be rounded and smooth with nothing that could cut you on it.
