What if...

I was just cruising the web, looking at all the gun control sites. It struck me that the pro-gun forces are facing a very, very serious threat. It isn't some bugaboo like the UN or FEMA that's out to take my guns, it's the Methodists, the Unitarians, and a lot of angry moms. I'd rather face the UN, 'cause I know damn well how powerful angry moms can be--and how effective at changing laws. This led me to wonder, WHAT IF the worst happened and the feds passed a law instructing us to turn in our handguns in six months or face felony charges. I don't think it will happen next year, but in a decade or two it might. It's already happened in the UK, Australia and a few major cities in the US. I know myself well enough to know that I would never turn my iron in. But then again I don't have a family. I would only be risking my own life. Who would back down, and who would stand firm? Should we plan for it now, or would that only help the antis label us as yahoos?

Gee, Im a gun owner and my email address is yahoo.com

I guess that makes me a yahoo on both counts.

:D

By the way, what makes you think that the United Nations is not deadly serious about their victim disarmament policy?????

The United Nations wants to disarm every one EXCEPT themselves.

It would have to be a personal choice. Many here have families, so they have other factors that they would have to weigh and make their own decision. Some of us are single, but have other factors that we have to weigh before we make our decisions.

Having the UN on American soil is a blatant disreguard for our way of life and goes against the Documents that our country was founded upon. But, many Americans would allow and even tolerate this intrusion just so they can feel safer or retain their material goods, if only for a short time.

Myself, I've yet to make that decision. I guess that I would have to look at the road in which something like this would be implemented. At this point in time, I am trying to create as many "road bumps" as possible to slow down or even stop this fast train to tyranny. Also, you have to take into account the differences between the 1700's and the 2000's. Three hundred years of technology and the government monopoly on this technology would skew the advantages that our forefathers had back then. This is not to say that we've already loss before we've even begun. I, for one, would try my best to ensure that America stays the great country that it was, but at the same time, what would my death or the death of others accomplish? Maybe it would open up the eyes of some of the sheeple and have a dominoe effect such as the TRT protest in Denver. Maybe it will cause other true freedom lovers to hide because they don't wish the same fate.

On the other hand; we are all criminals in the eyes of government anyway. So what is another criminal charge leveled against you? All "citizens" have, at one time or the other, disobeyed some law that is on the books. Sometimes accidently, sometimes on purpose. I don't think that the prisons are big enough to jail *every* non-compliant gun owner if a ban is annouced; but if a *few examples* are made (such as Waco or Ruby Ridge but on a grander scale) then many gun owners will be scared into giving up thier *irons*.

Who knows what will really happen. It's one of those things that you can practice, talk about, and even make plans just in case; but until the issue is thrust into the faces of true Americans, it's all spectulation.

Consider history as your guide. In Ireland, about 200 - 350 'terrorist' have basically kept the COUNTRY of England putting troops in their country for a looonnnng time.

In Vietnam, we sent (over a period of eight to ten years) 500,000 well equiped, well trained troops that were completely demoralized by a MUCH SMALLER terrorist group.

In both instances, these small groups were supplied by others. In our instance, some of us have been preparing for this for years. The state militias formed at grass roots levels will probably be ineffective, BUT they show those that are willing to show their willingness to fight the government since the mid-80's (earlier?). How many gun owners have quietly stashed away an few weapons, complete with ammo, etc. 5% of gun owners? 10% of gun owners? Lets say (for ease of those of us mathematcially challenged - like me) that 10% of 70 million gun owners set aside those 'arsenals' for just such a scenario. Out of that 7 million, lets say that only 10% of those ACTUALLY ACTED with those weapons. That means that approximately 700,000 people will be sniping at whoever becomes 'the bad guys' in this interface, nationwide. Would we win? Probably, but it's hard to say.

Historically, less than 10% of the population supported the 'upstart uprising' of our founding fathers. Fewer still ACTUALLY picked up arms and fought. Yet we finally defeated the 'Superpower England' (with the help of France and a few others).

Will I fight? Depends. Mainly on when all this occurs. If I can still lift a finger, I will do all I can to aid those fighting for our freedoms. Sometimes, just willing to support those who do the actual fighting can make a world of difference. As I get older, I realize that while I might be in the way on the front lines, I can definately aid and support those who are. If I can fight on the front lines without causing problems, I would consider it my duty and an honor to fight for the freedoms our fore fathers fought and died for.

Funny you should mention the Unitarians. Here is an e-mail I just sent to their Executive Director

Sir,
I recently married a woman who is a Unitarian and who donates quite heavily
to your organization. I do not have a church and we agreed that after our
assets and incomes became commingled that I could pick some cause I thought
worthy and our household would contribute an equal sum to that. It was with
some surprise that in my reading on your organization (I was not initially
opposed to making UUA's donation larger.) I found out that you folks are
involved in a very political and not terribly spiritual issue--the second
amendment. I want you to know that I do not think any religious
organization has any business involved with this or any other issue that
seems to me only a civil issue. I also do not support Christian, Jewish, or Islamic meddling in civil affairs (walls of separation and so forth...you remember that letter from history class...don't you?). So, you made my choice easy--as long as I see this is the case with your organization--I will match her donation to you dollar for
dollar to the NRA and the GOA; this has made me a life member of these organizations (I found out that most of their money
comes from small grassroots support.) and they seem very appreciative. I
find this more amusing than my wife, but a bit of friction spices things up and she is a very good sport. ( I told her a deal is a deal.) I explained this situation to the NRA and GOA and they e-mailed back and told me to thank you.
Needless to say I think you should get out of this issue. This seems to me to be one for a citizen's personal choice and no matter how I feel about guns, I know how I feel about personal freedom.
As churches go, my experience with yours has been very good.

Thanks for the time,
Lonnie

I was already member of NRA and GOA but I got to increase my donations--I don't know if it will help--but it is fun to let them know I am out here.
