What If...? A question for anti-gunners

A couple of weeks ago here in Vancouver, Canada, a 32 year old guy went to the aid of a person that he saw being assaulted by 4 people with baseball bats. For his trouble, the guy was savagely beaten to death. There is considerable outrage over this tragic event, and considerable sympathy for the Good Samaritan who died trying to help someone.
My question is: What if the GS had produced a gun, and shot one or two of the assailants when they turned on him....what would the public's attitude have been towards him THEN? I posed this question to an avid anti-gunner yesterday, and all he could do was splutter about "guns not being the answer"...
Self-defense is no defense in court in Canada.
BTW...all 4 of the assailants were apprehended, charged and are now out on bail...disturbed teens, you see....

I suspect with the current anti-gun political/propaganda situation in Canada the GS would have been crusified if he would have used a gun to defend his own life and that of the victim. The same would be true here in several areas in this country. As long as the liberals control the media the reporting will do all possible to sway public sentiment against anyone using a gun....no matter how justified.

Gunslinger is correct. Self defense is outlawed in the Marxist Socialist country of Canada..... just as it is slowly-but-surely being outlawed by the communistnazis here in the U.S. J.B.

Putting on my Anti-mask again that has been collecting dust in the closet for 8 mos,

Well that does not work because anytime I see more than 1 on 1, I get very disturbed.

I could see the anti say something like. "I would put down my Starbuck's stainless refil mug chock full of mocha-cappachino (grande) with skim milk and whipped cream (yeah nice diet), pick up my Sprint PCS(tm) and dial 911 to report the incident while I sit in the comfort of my 7.8 metric ton SUV taking up 4 parking spaces and half of the right turn lane because I can not possibly be expected to talk on the phone, dock my truck in only ONE spot, drink my coffee and pluck my eyebrows. As the brains and splinters splashed against my rear windshield, obscuring my MMM and WWF (panda) sticker I would turn on the rear windshield wiper and thank God (or god- go 1A!) that these evil street urchins will never be granted access into my gated community.

Or we can blame the man being beaten because he did not just give his wallet, watch, or dignity because a stronger force demanded it.

Or we can say that the four are obviously need to be hugged because that nasty experience of seeing all of that blood is going to make them feel bad.

But since Canada is a socialist nation, like the anti's want here to be, there is no violent crime, no poverty, no unhappiness, no desire to dull the pain of society with drugs: your whole argument is moot. You are a liar. Canada and Britain have no crime, no death and blue birds fly and place flowers in your hair.

Well, since muggers' lives are more important than the GS's, I'd say the outcome would hinge on whether or not he was foolish enough to stick around afterwards...depending on the details of the situation - location, bystanders, etc. - it might be best to simply walk away afterwards.

What if you missed the muggers and hit an innocent? Wouldn't that be worse?

Also, if all the moneys spent on guns were spent on education, there wouldn't be muggers.

It reminds me of Hannity from Hannity and Kook when the former was asking some anti about what he would do if some bad man broke into his house and wanted to put the schlong to his women folk. The dude was not a physical giant. He kept saying he would defend his family the best he could. Hannity said HOW. He ignored it. Hannity asked again. Again no response. Unfortunatley Hannity let him go then. Maybe he thought he made the point.

I think most anti's would say to call 911 and that if the person being attacked had just had a cell phone, he could have called as soon as the men approached him, and then the police would have arrived before everything got out of hand.

Dunno, maybe this question would be better posed to Bernard Ghetts(sp?)...

"[Even if there would be] few tears shed if and when the Second Amendment is held to guarantee nothing more than the state National Guard, this would simply show that the Founders were right when they feared that some future generation might wish to abandon liberties that they considered essential, and so sought to protect those liberties in a Bill of Rights. We may tolerate the abridgement of property rights and the elimination of a right to bear arms; but we should not pretend that these are not reductions of rights." -- Justice Scalia 1998

Enochgale, That's why we practice shooting. If you're that incompetent, you won't pass the CHL shooting test and shouldn't be carrying anyway. No competent shooter is going to shoot without a clear line of fire.

That would be an assault SUV. :) If it had a bayonet lug.

I think it is only considered an assault SUV if you can fit more than 10 kids into it. BAN HIGH CAPACITY SUVs!!!

Questions like this are a waste of time on Anti's. It's like a kid doing something stupid like walking with his buddies on the top of a bridge to show MANHOOD . You say " What if you fell ?" You get this look like " It hasn't happened to me yet so what's the beef ?" You come up with a scenario and they can ignore the potential since it is "not really happening." The only time it hits home is when it really happens . If they fall off the bridge it quickly looks that " Yes , it was a foolish thing to do ." Until then it's "cool."
So what the Anti needs is somebody to take his front teeth out with a chrome auto and take his woman while he cries . Only then will the logic become clear .
You can talk until you are old and dead but until the dog bites him there is no dog .
Sometimes I think these bozos take the Anti position just to show bravery . They are disagreeing with an armed person . Ooooohhh what bravery .
They don't realize that the closer they are to you the safer they are . Poetic justice would be you coming across them in a life struggle and telling them " Hold on . I'm going home to put my gun away . I'll be back as quickly as I can and reason with this person. Don't let him get away . I'll tell him about 911 and what will happen when I call ."

I used to end up having the pro-anti gun conversation at lunch with friend or customers. I would ask them "If someone came in here right now like they did at Luby's a few years ago (everyone in Texas knows about the Luby's incident), who would you rather be eating with; me, armed, or Sarah Brady with a cell phone?" Paratrooper is partly right, some will say,"It won't happen again!" but some will actually think about it. Once the seed is planted I have known several who came around and asked for more info.
