What have you "Lost or Found"

Thought I'd start a new thread on what Y'all have lost or found, while hunting, on the bench and generally, in the field. Don't know where this is going, but do anticipate some interesting replies.. ... :)

I'll start;
I hunt a river bottom that is heavy with trees and multi-floral Rose. One late morning while coming back to my truck. I chose to shoulder my SideLocks and while putting it back in it's case, noticed my ramrod was gone. Never did find it and can still see it laying on the ground or perhaps, hanging from a tree.. ... :o

lost a good knife (somebody probably nicked it) on a big pig hunt

found a rifle one of the oldtimers had leaned against a tree when he gutted a moose, I carried back to the slaughterhouse, we skinned the moose and planned the next day, had dinner togheter and when we were going to leave I asked him if he wanted his rifle back:D he turned white, he had completely forgot it.

found while fishing, i hooked something big and up comes a potatosack with kittens, now I don't like cats at all but it was horrible and I shed a tear
 
While chasing black tailed Jackrabbits in Utah's West Desert, the pivot screw worked its way out of the bayonet lug on my SKS. When I fired at a rabbit....

Bang! Bang! Twangggggg!

The bayonet launched itself into an arroyo that had about 8 feet of snow in the bottom. I climbed down and looked, and found the locking collar, but wasn't surprised to come up empty for the bayonet itself....

(I kept the bayonet extended while hiking with the rifle, to keep it from rattling. Folded, it made all kinds of ungodly noises. ...It never did rattle again. :rolleyes:)



One of my brothers found an old Colt double action revolver in the same area, rusted into a solid blob, when we were quite a bit younger.
I believe he turned it over to the police, but I honestly don't know what happened with it, for sure.
 
duffle bag full of military gear

I found a duffle bag somebody left behind full of military gear

a steel M1 army helmet & liner, a gas mask, NBC suit with gloves & over shoes, military rations, M16 magazines with pouches, web gear, canteens, and other misc stuff.

this was out in the country
 
I once found an old rifle. It has so much rust on it that I can't tell what it is but I kept it just because of how strange of a find it was.
 
I've found three guns at my range,,,

One person left a nice scoped bolt rifle,,,
I can't remember what brand or caliber it was,,,
I called the club secretary who called the park rangers.

One couple left a Ruger 22/45 pistol on the bench,,,
They came back before the park ranger I called had arrived,,,
They were terrified they would be arrested for negligence or something.

One guy left a very beautiful over/under standing in the range rack,,,
When he drove back to the range he was "flying low",,,
Apparently it was a $20,000 skeet gun.

People leave targets on the berm all the time,,,
The worst I've ever left was a half of a brick of .22 LR.

But I do circle the range table several times before I drive away,,,
I've almost left ammo, targets, and my bag of range stuff on many occasions.

I was shooting the K-31 (first time I shot it) and I had fired all 6 rounds. Got all 5 brass, got my metal detector out (one of my other hobbies, I do it mostly in the fall and winter, more favorable time of year.) Kept looking for that thing for 30 minutes and finally found it. I'm a regular brass buzzard.

I haven't really found anything.
 
I've lost several knives in the woods, more arrows than I care to count, miscellaneous hats and gloves and a few rounds of ammo. I've found a couple of knives and plenty of stuff unusual for the location. Like, what's this Frisbee doing out here, a mile from the closest house or road? Nothing terribly interesting.
 
I lost a Mosin M44 rifle. Hate to say it. But someone has it somewhere. Even in the remote wilderness of the Oregon Cascades it took less than 16 hours to be swiped from the tree it was leaned against. Thankfully that lesson only cost me $89.

Well, not gun related but similar as I once found a RC-airplane, hanging in a tree. It was a beauty and had about a 5FT. wingspan. Right off, I checked and sure enough, it was out of gas. Tried like heck to locate the owner and even contacted some clubs, without success ...... :confused:

LOST:
Gas plug from an M1a. Both it & the piston exited targetwards while firing a string:eek: I finally found the piston but the plug seems to be in orbit somewhere.

FOUND:
A bipod, no rifle attached out in the deep woods.

I don't know if underwater counts, but divers will tel you of amazing amounts of secured gear just wandering off into Davy Jones Locker. Salt water can untie knots a circus strongman can't break.

LOST:
A super bright (& super expensive) dive light that uses an aircraft landing light bulb & will melt itself if its not immersed when switched on. A few divers knives/tools Etc.

FOUND:
Inside a sunken German WW2 submarine 130' underwater, a complete SCUBA setup. Tank, regulator, octopus gauges & compass console with a dive computer attached.
(My dive buddy was thrilled for me, giving me lots of double "thumbs up"s till he exited & discovered it was his second backup set that had weightlessly slipped out of the securing pack unnoticed!):eek:

Way back in 1976, while in the military and stationed in Europe, we were crossing a river, and one of the guy's in my platoon lost an M-60 machine Gun.

We never did find the damn thing.............:o
 
As a guest at a buddy's range I somehow lost a magazine for my Radom.:(
The next day I told my buddy and a few days later he went back and someone turned it in, and I got it back.:)

Another time the screw that holds the slide mounted decocker/safety on my S&W 659 came out. I found the safety lever but not the screw. My local gunsmith gave me one and I Locktited it in.

When doing things the "Army way"- it's possible to lose dang near anything when it comes to doing ANYTHING around water. I swear- I bet I lost 10 good years of my life trying to get through their Drown Proofing Training!

The same way you lose a shovel.... forget where you left it.


One of my buddies' wives lost a car for 3 years.
She parked it somewhere near Birmingham England before a "short" trip to the states. However, she got delayed, ended up living here for 2 years and getting married; completely forgot about the car when she went home for 6 months; and only remembered when the owner of the parking area tracked her down in the U.S. and sent her a bill for £8,500 (about $15,000) after already seizing the car. :rolleyes:
 
I've found ski poles, a parka, tent, Weber grill, climbing rope, alpine stoves, things like that. No guns, though.

Never leave a rest stop or campsite without looking back to see what you left.

I've used red laces for years in my boots, several pair now, to keep me from walking off without them. Works pretty well.
