What happened with CZ pistols?

Hi there guys ! well, first of all; sorry for my poor english.

Well, i've owned several CZ guns; p07, 75, p01shadow, Tactical Sport .40, and i was thinking about buy another shadow.. but a friend of the range here in Chile (i'm chilean btw) buy one just a few weeks ago, and for our surprise, the new cz pistol seems like junk if you compare it with the old ones, he bought a shadow dual tone so we compared the internals, terminations, trigger group, trigger pull, and so on, and the quality was very poor.

It's a bad thing to hear, because cz was a very nice guns company, excelent ratio of quality-price-performance, tight groups, nice terminations, excelent triggers and so on.

I read about a new cz factory in brasil, lame, because i'm south american and i KNOW brasil sucks in my humble opinion at making guns; taurus, magtech, come ON cz !!

CZ pistols we see here in the United States are still of excellent quality. If you are seeing poor quality in Chile, I would guess the problem is the new factory in Brazil. As I'm certain you already know, Brazil is having some problems these days.

Sometimes, it really matters where guns are manufactured if you want excellent quality. It doesn't matter what brand they are. When was the last time the Swiss turned out a crappy gun?

Yeah, the guns we are getting from CZ have been of excellent quality. I've not heard of any drop-off in these parts.

There was a thread about a year ago where some were saying the newer CZs were showing improvements over fit and finish than the past.

I have only one CZ, an SP01 Shadow that I bought in 2015 and for a CZ the fit and finish look pretty nice to me though not as nice as my SIG 1911 which is my only other steel frame pistol. Here is a link to the thread and some pictures I posted which you can compare to what you are seeing now.

I've seen first-hand the junk Brazil was churning out in the late '80's early '90's. I had to replace a locking block in a Taurus PT-99. The 1st one Taurus sent was so out-of-spec, my gunsmith wouldn't even try to install it. Sent that one back and the 2nd one was so rough and had so much casting residue/extra left on it that it took quite a bit of fitting to make it work. Crap. Pure crap....but that was almost 30 years ago.

I hope that's not what you are seeing with the CZ internals. Pictures...PICTURES!!! Please.

Hold on – this January 2016 IHS Jane's 360 news story claims that the Brazilian joint venture was stillborn, with CZ suspending the enterprise before any pistols were actually produced. (One wonders if the local partner was Taurus.) Additionally, the story claims that only the P07 was intended to be produced there.

Is the pistol actually stamped "MADE IN BRAZIL" (or Brasil)?

If not, what is the exact model number of your friend's pistol? If it's a CZ 99, this pistol is produced by Zastava Arms in Serbia, and not by the company generally associated with modern CZ pistols – Česká Zbrojovka in Uherský Brod, Czech Republic. Zastava pistols are lower-end products that generally don't measure up to CZ Uherský Brod standards for fit and finish.

IIRC the words "Česká Zbrojovka" roughly translate to "Czech Armory" or "Czech Arms Manufacturing". The "CZ" abbreviation is generic and is not unique to the Uherský Brod company.

What happened with CZ pistols

The quality of fit and finish on the CZ 75B I bought in April is excellent. Several people after handling and shooting it have commented on it's quality.

My FiL bought a brand-new CZ75 about a year ago. It is a very nice gun. The fit and finish are excellent and it is a good shooter.

I just picked a new CZ-75B last week and field stripped it yesterday and will shoot it tomorrow. The pistol is well made and no flaws I can see, we'll see what happens at the range! I put some VZ grips on it and I'm ready to go!
