What happened to Plain Jane?

Does anyone know why the devil you cant find a nice plain looking 870 like the one in the link below anymore?

What happened to less is more? This is exactly what I'm looking for in my next shotgun: 870 12ga, 18" bbl, round foregrip, preferably wood. Is that too much to ask for? I've really had it with the tacticool crap. It has it's place but it's not the be-all-end-all of shotguns or even HD guns.

Here's a remington 870 from that same site. They are available, but aside from the shorter social work or slug barrels, all of them have vent ribs and chokes.

Right. The gun in the OP's link is definitely an Ithaca 37.

That 870 with the rifle sights up above is a great looking shotgun!

Wow... I knew something looked funny there. Ithaca not 870, my bad guys. Still, why can't Remington or Mossberg put out a Plain Jane 18" shotgun like Ithaca?

It's just irritating when the two foremost (not best, that's subjective) American shotgun makers can't put out a No BS shotgun. Not specialized for anything but well adapted to everything.

Like this one http://media.photobucket.com/image/870 old fashion/FLRon777/MyRem870Pic.jpg (it says it's an 870, I think it's an older model judging from the title)

On a side question: How good are the Ithaca HD models compared to the 870s and Mossy 500s? Right now my favorite shotguns are the 870 Marine Mag http://www.remington.com/products/firearms/shotguns/model_870/model_870_marine_magnum.asp and the 870 Express tactical http://www.remington.com/products/firearms/shotguns/model_870/model_870_express_tactical.asp (minus the rail or goofy thing on the barrel)

I would be perfectly happy putting an Ithaca with my 590 in the closet. I've always been impressed with their guns.

All of the pic queries aside, I do agree. I really want to go pick up a no frills shotgun, it seems like they either lean towards HD or lean to duck hunting, with slim pickins in between.

Just wondering? Have you not seen any of the Remington Express shotguns. Quite a bit planer than the Ithaca Deerslayer you had pictured. Hardwood stock and flat finish on metal parts. They only made about a jillion of them.

shotgun

a standard mossberg and rem express are inexpensive guns and work.wal mart sells them.price of rem was $239 and mossberg 500 was $150.
:eek::D

Whoa.

The web filter at my office flagged that as a pornography site.

Not good. I'm going to get a visit.

As for plain jane, try Wal Mart. They seem to be the biggest carriers of the absolute basemodel plain jane guns around.

Mossberg and remington both offer plain jane guns with short or long barrels. But now days the very plainest of janes will have the cheaper to produce black tupperware stocks...

I guess this depends on where you are, but have you tried shopping used? I always see a great variety of simple, unmodded Remingtons and Mossbergs at the used shops I go to.

I've noticed that the 870 Police models seem to be overpriced on GunBroker, I called and I'm able to order the base (standard, wood furniture) police model for around $430 plus standard $25 shipping.

They all ask in the $500-$600 range.
