What gun?

Left-Hander

New member
Hi eveyone I am new here and this will be my first post. The question is, what shotgun should I get? I am on a tight budget( only 15 and saving for car also) $300 or less would be great. I am left-handed. Are the Mossbergs any good? Price? I will primarily use it for upland birds, and clay shooting.

People say good things about stoeger, don't have a lot of experience with oe/sxs guns, so i'll let someone who knows more chime in.

If you are considering a repeater, I suggest an ithaca-37. You might be able to pick it up used for 200-300 depending on condition, and it is a bottom ejecting pump. A mossy 500 might work too, though you'd have to deal with the shells flying across your face. Personally, tho, i've used beretta 391s(a righthanded semiauto) , and I never noticed it. You could get a remington 870 lh pump, and it'll be exactly like the 870 but in left hand. The only problem with this is that left hand guns take left hand barrels, which aren't common. (Thats the problem i have with my 11-87 lh, no cheap short barrels) .

I think that the 870 left hand version would do me well. I already know how reliable they are my grandpa's is still shootin an he has had his since the 70's. His seems to fit me quite well( same dimensions as lefty 870)and i like the sight plane of the 28" barrel.Should be killer on pheasents and clays eh.

I used a bps youth model for 6 years. Loved it. If you think the 870 is huge. . . the bps is larger and heavier, or thats the way it seemed to me when i compared the two side by side. I believe the bps is about1/2 lb heavier than the 870. However, you may want to consider a 20 guage. 20s are really good handling guns, and they are much lighter than 12's. (the 870 20 ga is a pound lighter than the 12 ga).

I don't know for a fact, but i believe you can switch the safety on the ithaca 37. And if you get one without a disconnect, while you do have to be more careful, you can let rip with some of that old time rock and roll. :D
Just as a caution, a lighter shotgun will recoil harder. I've never fired a m37, but i would think that it recoils a quite a bit harder 11-87(which is no slouch).

As i said, i'm not much into side-by-side/over-unders, so this is my 2 cents.

I think I am gonna steer clear of the Stoegers and just get the left hand version of the 870.(I am really paranoid about parts/quality issues) Thanks for all of your suggestions.
