What gun to buy?

Hey Guys!

I'm brand new to the site and this is my first post! I just recently got into clay shooting. I like all the sports (trap, skeet, 5-stand, and SC) equally and was looking to buy a good overall gun. I'm working with a limited budget (I'm in highschool and my job doesn't start for another 3 months or so.) I was looking at O/U's and was thinking about an Yildiz Spz-Me. For $490 plus tax, I get the gun and 5 chokes. Is this a good deal? It looks like a really good quality gun, but I'm not really sure. Any help you could give me would be great. Thanks a million!

I know you may have yoour hart set on a O/U but for a highschooler with not much cash "not tring to be negative i was there once" I would sugest a good used Remington 1100 skeet with a barrel that will allow you to screw in chokes and what not. Remington 1100's are great guns and can be had for $350 to $400. I actualy got mine in highschool and it lasted me through collage, and now that i have a "real" job i bought a Ruger Red lable, but still use the old 1100 now and then. Its just the Wallmart O/U and what not may give you some trouble, in O/U like that you really get what you pay for. But hey best of luck its always good for more people to get into shotgun sports.

Another high-schooler!

Just wondering, why an O/U? there are several quality pump guns, like the Rem 870 Express, or Winchester 1300, that can be had for less than $490. My Win 1300 Black Shadow cost me $199 new, and I've had no problems yet.

Thanks for your thoughts, everyone. To tokarevman: My dad has a Remington 870 Wingmaster, which is a pump, and it's a good gun, don't get me wrong, but it isn't worth a lot on the skeet field. I have a lot of trouble on the pairs because when I pump, my aim gets off pretty quick. My motion isn't smooth like it should be. Here's a link to the gun I'm talking about.

Don't mean to sound unappreciative of your advice, just trying to learn.

The Remington 1100 is an Auto so you not have that problem. Here is a pic of my 1100.

Since you are working with a limited budget I urge you to consider a used shotgun. Visit your local gunshops and speak with the owners about the type of shooting you want to do, then ask them to show you what they have that will meet your needs. Take your time, ask questions, and learn as you go. Chances are good that they can help you in choosing a gun that properly fits you (this is critical if you want to shoot well), and that their offerings will be vetted so that your purchase will be both safe and sound.

Good luck, and good shooting!

I would recommend the Remington 1100 as well. For someone young and just starting out it is going to be the most versital gun. You won't have any trouble on your double with either. Very smooth and reliable. Get removable choke tubes and you will be able shoot anything with it, not to mention it will probably last you forever. I started with a cheap O/U and was never able to get very good with it. I now shoot a Beretta 390 and love it. You might even be able to find a used Beretta 390 or 391 for around $500. Thats just my $.02
