What grips for S&W Model 66

I recently aquired a pinned barrel Model 66 that belonged to my grandfather. Purchased in the early 70's I believe. What grips to you recommend? I want something kind of slim (so no bulky wood grips) and have a good rubbery feel. Can someone send me a link too I'm having difficulty finding which one I need. I see "square butt" and "round butt" K Frame grips but that means nothing to me as I don't know the difference. Some explanation? I'm new to revolvers and from what I hear, I don't even understand what I just aquired.

Take your grips off. Look at the bottom of the grip frame. It is squared, or rounded? That will tell you of the kind of butt you have.

After that, get a set of Pachmayr compacs.

My 66-2 4" I replaced the grips with Pachmayr decades ago. They feel slimmer than the OEM wood that I still have/posses.

i have ahrends "retro combat" grips on my M10. i know you said no bulky wood but i dont think theyre really bulky at all. they look great and feel even better

When someone asks about the best grips for a K-frame S&W, (or any Smith & Wesson really) especially when they want something thin and not bulky, my answer is always the same.

Standard magna type grips, with a Tylers or BK grip adapter.

I don't have a picture of K-frame with one, so here's my Model 28-2, N-frame. Same idea.

If you've just GOT to have rubber, and I admit that I don't think black rubber on white stainless steel is a BAD combo, I've always favored Pachmayr myself.

Model 66 Grips

I agree with Cajun. I have a Model 19 with a 2 1/2" barrel. For summer concealment I use the wood magna grips with a Tyler T Grip. This combination gives you very good control and I think it looks great. I have Pacmayr grips that I might use once it gets cool but to be honest the way I have it set up now works real good. Might just leave it the way it is all year round.

What every you do, do not loose the original grips if the revolver still has them.

The original grips are always important to current and future value. They should have the matching serial number most likely on the inside of the right grip panel.

Kind of like back in the early 60's and putting Cragers mags on a 1961 Corvette. Just don't loose those original spinner hubcaps. :)
