What grain bullet?

I have a Sako model 75 in 300 win mag. Most if you probably know it has a 1:11 twist. I have been shooting 180 and 185 gr bullets. I have trued a number of different ones. So far nothing very impressive. Would a 165 gr be better for this twist or maybe a 200gr? I don't reload currently. And I will use this gun for hunting.

Thanks

I've always used 150 gr for whitetail and 180 for elk etc in my Ruger 77 Mk II all-weather .300 Win Mag. It loves anything I feed it and everything goes to the same point of impact. Really weird but also really nice. 1:10 twist on it. I'm not sure what difference that would make to 1:11 twist.

The Army uses 190 gr SMK's in a barrel with a 1:11.25 twist, so I think you should be fine with the 180's.

However, since you don't reload, you have nothing to lose by trying some 165 grain bullets. Accuracy is more important than anything else, so go ahead and try some different loads.

Most manufacturers use 1:10 for 300's and 30-06. Generally speaking faster twists shoot better with longer/heavier bullets. Since 1:11 is slightly slower, in theory it should shoot slightly shorter/lighter bullets better. But, there ain't that much diffeence here. Best advice I can give it to keep trying different ammo, both heavier and lighter and see what happens. Generally bullets in the 165-180 gr range have shot best for me.
