I am not sure what goes on the record when you buy a handgun in California. I have read through the laws, but none of the things I have read, as far as I have seen say what the record keeps. I know there is the background check. Beleive me, I know about that. But what else? Here is an example: If I buy a handgun, and the state gets away with banning handguns, will they know that I have one?

Not sure about the state, but Federally, after 30 days, only the FFL should have a record of the sale. The FBI is not supposed to keep record of the background checks after 30 days. The FFL must maintain his/her records for 20 years. If he/she goes out of business before that time, the records are to be turned into the ATF. Some states may violate your rights and keep their own records, however.

All right, both of you, that's enough. No one needs to ask or answer that question. We are here for your protection and benefit. Your discussion of this topic has been added to your records in our files.
