I recently purchased a s&W model 10-8 serial # 3D97### Bill Davis custom Aristocrat. I will use it to shoot 25 yard bullseye. I am looking for a set of match grips. The Hogue are to small to support the weight. I am looking at a set of Nill-Griffe match grips. I need to know the frame style. I believe it is a K frame square butt frame but Nill needs to know for sure before I order. How do I tell?

Your revolver is a K-Frame. I can't tell you for sure whether you have a round butt or square but without seeing the gun or at least a picture of it, but a M10 of that vintage would most likely have a square butt. Your thread would probably be a better fit in the revolver forum. If you PM one of the Moderators, I'm sure they would move it for you.

Seems to be made in the late 70's. Most likely a square butt. Here's a grip site with some photos of each style that may help you figure it out.

As Webley says, it's a K-frame. If you remove the current grip stocks, you can discern the underlying grip frame geometry between square/round butt.
