the phrase Diligentia, Vis, Celeritas means Accuracy, Power, and Speed

That's so stupid. Why come up with a acronym in a dead language? Is DVC somehow easier to say than APS? No wonder I've never heard of it before.

You asked for illumination not justification.

I'm rather of a Cooper fan myself but "DVC" always struck me as sort of an "insider" thing something along the lines of "Gunsite Orange vs. Gray".

OTOH, some of Cooper's stuff has made it into the popular vernacular.

I also believe he's responsible for the fact you shoot a handgun as you do rather than one-handed, at arms length, with the offhand stuffed in your butt pocket.

ac·ro·nym (kr-nm)
n.
A word formed from the initial letters of a name, such as WAC for Women's Army Corps, or by combining initial letters or parts of a series of words, such as radar for radio detecting and ranging

Diligentia, Vis, Celeritas. DVC is an acronym. An abbreviation woud be something like St. for street or mag. for magnum.

DVC is not a word. If you say it you will sound like a Croatian fruit merchant on Monday morning.

I like Cooper as well, but at heart he was an elitist which is not a personality trait I find particularly endearing.

Correct - DVC is not an abbreviation, but it is also not an acronym - it is an initialism. To be a true acronym (which is a subset of all initialisms), the letters have to form a pronounceable word. Hence RADAR is an acronym, but FBI isn't. Additional letters from single words are sometimes used in order to make an initialism into an acronym. The word acronym itself is a fairly recent invention (within the last 70-80 years) which is a combination of "acrostic" and the Greek combinatorial suffix for word - "onym".

As for DVC, you'll have to take it up with Rich Lucibella if you don't like it being used here.
