What does "Citori" mean?

Hi,

OK I've searched the net...there's Citori saddles, Citori street, of course the Browning Citori, various animals named Citori, some fantasy folks who dress themselves up and are called Citori, and Citori travel.

My question is...what does Citori mean?

Is it latin, italian, romanian or something?

Any knowledgable curmudgeons out there?

I highly doubt it was made up.

The word tori in Japanese means bird. So maybe the word "citori" was used becases the gun is mainly use in shooting birds or bird like items.

I tried using www.refdesk.com 's translator and it turned up nothing for citori or tori, including from Japanse.

Was the Citori first made in Japan?

I highly doubt it was made up.

I can't find the word in about a dozen different translators that I have tried. If Citori is Japanese, then it is the strangest Japanese word that I have ever heard, with perhaps the exception of gorufu (golf).

The name was made up by Browning.

Citori's have always been built by Miroku, and are sold under the Miroku name in Europe (And through the grey market here in the US)

Browning citori should not be confused with the superb Belgian Browning Superposed guns.
