Not really sure what you're asking. Modern .45 JHPs certainly DO expand, especially out of 5" barrels. There are a few brands that may not out of a 3.5" barrel, and of course there are certain tactical scenarios where a JHP in any caliber probably won't expand period. In .45 ACP the mushroom champs are the Winchester Silvertip and Speer 200gr. "flying ashtray". Of course, expansion isn't everything so choose your load for feed reliability first, terminal performance second, and 25yd. accuracy LAST.
I always use Federal 230gr. Hydra-Shoks, so that in the event the bullet doesn't open up at least I'm hitting the BG with a full 230gr. slug.
