What Does a Name Mean to You?

Does the name of a gun manufacturer conjure up images of a certain gun or style of gun for you and cause you to have reservations about their other models?

For me:

S&W = double action revolvers
Colt = SA revolvers or 1911
Walther = PPK
Ruger = SA revolvers or 22 cal semi
Browning = Hi Power or shotguns
Remington = bolt action rifles or 870 or 1100
Winchester = lever action or Model 70
etc.

I know it is foolish, but I have a hard time embracing the idea of a S&W semi-auto pistol or rifle of any sort or shotgun. I know these manufactures make other excellent firearms. It is just that they automatically bring to mind a certain image to me.

Does anybody else ever think this way? About what gun or maker? By the way this is just a topic, not a serious problem. I can get past my preconceived images.

Taurus = lemons? That dern Judge always comes to mind.
Para Ordnance = 1911
Rock Island = cheap 1911
Springfield = affordable to not so affordable 1911s
Mossberg = scatter gun
IMI = Uzis, Desert Eagles

OK, I'll play:

S&W...........Brother-In-Law (he owns many)
Colt............Officers Model .38 and .22 (Mine, 1926)
Walther.......9mm (nope, don't have)
Ruger..........Bearcat (Mine, 1965)
Browning......Superposed Shotguns (first shotgun I ever shot)
Remington....700 (mine purchased new in 1964. Only brand new gun I ever bought)
Winchester...1897 pump shotgun (mine is from 1903)

I add..CZ...Fun guns (I have several: several styles, several calibers)

Here's my response:

S&W........... Good solid revolvers, 2nd and 3rd gen autos - durable, good accuracy, triggers....ehhhh not so great - good value for what you get.

Colt............ Maker of some fine guns - Pythons are excellent. 1911's are good quality. Plus, they have a pony on them which keeps values high. Buy them while you can.

Walther.......Nicely made .380's, beautiful to look at but too big for today's world.

Ruger.......... Good solid guns that work and rarely break. Ruger makes some real work-horse guns - more more innovative than S&W and Colt, without having to pay for those logos. Also, American made.

Browning......Once a maker of excellent shotguns (superposed) and 9mm's (Hi-Power) when they were being produced in Belgium. Now, nothing more than a name used by other foreign gun makers.

Remington....Maker of good work-horse hunting rifles.

Winchester... Maker of good lever-action carbines.....over 47 years ago. Now, nothing more than a name that means little or nothing to me as far as current production guns.

Ruger- I think about going to my first dove shoot with Pops and him carrying a 12 ga. Red Label and me with a 20 ga Red Label. We have since traded back and forth too many times to count.

Remington- I think of a Sportsman 58 and my Grandpa, who in his own words
"got a Silver Star for killing a handful of Nazis with my BAR."

Browning- I think of my Grandpa again and both of my Uncles, who were all three decorated BAR men.

Ithaca- Makes me think of Pops and his love for the Model 37, which he carried both in Vietnam and to the skeet range.

Colt- takes me back to a certain hill in Afghanistan where I proved myself to myself if that makes any sense.

Smith and Wesson- makes me think of Bill Jordan and how I would like to wear a badge and a gun along side men such as him.

Here are the gun makes I have used, and what they would say if they could speak,IMHO.
Colt....I aint effing around!! I mean it!(10mm Delta Elite, .357 anaconda)

Ruger..This is how it's done, son. (Redhawk 44, 10-22, mark IV, single six)

Ithaca..I'll show ya,Ya young li"l punk! (model 37 featherlight 12 ga.)

Browning...Sir, I do not condone of your ruffian-like actions (Browning BPS)

Hi Point....Well, if ya want dat lead on dat der tahget ova dere, justa..lemme know, uhkay? (995 carbine)

AMT...HUh? (automag II)

Marlin...I'm just an average joe,but can I put a hole in something! (Model 60,760 bolt action)

Lee Enfield..Quit bothering me, ya bloody tosser, or I'll giva ya a good kicking! and that goes for the wankas on both end of the muzzle !(WWII .303 British Enfield)

S&W..I am A cops best friend! (.40 acp DAO)
