What do you use on leather slings?

I have several bolt-actions rifles (some modern-some c&r's) that have leather slings. Normally I use a bit of mink oil but I am wondering if there is something better? Mink oil works fine on the newer slings but it takes the older sling forever them try!

I've bought it for years to use on everything from belts to work boots to furniture. Not expensive, doesn't smell bad, non toxic, and simple to apply.
I haven't tried it yet, but I've read several threads on folks who use it on wood stocks.

I just use Ballestol- the same stuff I use on the metal and wood parts. I just don't drench the leather.

I use Neatsfoot Oil. But you have to get pure Neatsfoot Oil, not "Neatsfoot Oil Compound." The compound is only partially Neatsfoot Oil, with a bunch of thinners and carriers thrown into the mix.

Neatsfoot Oil will usually darken and soften the leather, which is generally not a problem for a sling but not what you would want for a holster that was boned or semi-boned to fit the gun.

I use the leather conditioner you buy at the Harley shop. Beeswax based. Snoseal works well also. Mink oils and other animal oil based conditioners sometimes soften leather too much and can lead to stretchering and distortion.

Neatsfoot oil for us mortals that live in the lower forty eight.
Mink oil for the artic tundra hunters.
Lexal Leather Conditioner/Preservative is the best IMHO.
About a dollar per oz.

VINTAGE, BABY!

I always find nice period Boyt slings on Ebay. They go onto my collection of Pre 64 M70 rifles!
