I'm in the market for a pump .22 rifle and was intending to buy on of those Taurus M62 pump rifles. Largely because they offer a carbine version and because of the take down feature.

However as i live in Australia the availability of M62's is uncertain. The local gun shop does have a second hand Browning Trombone pump .22 in stock so I'd like to know of your opinions on this rifle and if anyone has ever used/owned one -

Thanks in advance.

These used to be called "Gallery Guns". At one trime at fairs used to have a shooting gallerys set up for folks with an urge to shoot.

22 shorts were used for ammo.

These types of guns are very nice. Light - Quick handeling, i believe [depending on model] as many as 21 shots could be had with this weapon. [22 shorts].

I could not see any reason not to by one , if the price was right.

Browning makes three grades to these types of rifles also.

12-34hom. Happy Holidays!

How much are they asking ? That's the nicest pump .22 I've ever seen, and knowing Browning's reputation, it should be a good one.

I bought a Taurus 62 awhile back and got a lemon :(.

Price for the Browning pump .22 is Aus$495, which equates to roughly US$250. In other words very affordable :)

I plan on contacting the gun store about the availabiltiy of a M62, but I can't really complain if I end up with the Browning.

Grab it if it's in good shape. The Trombone hasn't been imported to the US in years. There is a cult (albeit small) following in the US for this rifle. The last one I've seen was about 8 years ago. It is my understanding (from my European contacts) that the rifle was only an FN custom shop product in recent years and that production has ceased. Although I hope I'm wrong. It is a beautifully crafted rifle that has the lines and feel of the .22 Auto.

I have always hoped for a Winchester/Browning reproduction of the Model 61 (in .22 magnum no less), maybe someday......

I would grab it. The last Trombone I ran across was in pretty good shape with the usual bluing wear where the magazine tube slides through the guide, they wanted $850 for it. I handed it back and said I wanted to think on it for a while, another person in the store promptly bought it. I have only ran across about 4 of them in the last 10 years, they were all priced over $800 in clean used condition and they all sold VERY fast. Good luck, Mike...
