Security Six for GP100???

I was at the gun shop yesterday and saw a 6" stainless GP100 for $300.00 and can't afford to buy it right now since I just bought an H&R rifled slug gun last weekend and put an older Remington 1100 on lay-away at the same time and am buying a scope today for my rifle.

He is willing to give me $200.00 for my Security Six which is stainless and also has the 6" barrel and I would just owe $100.00. At the present time I have a GP100 in blued with the 6" barrel and have been wanting one in stainless.

This particular GP100 that he has must be an older one since the grip kind of folds over the frame not slips over it like on my GP100, it has the wood inserts an all like mine.
By the way the gun is in excellent condition and has a very tight lock up on it.

I'd try to bump him up to $225-$250 for the Security Six, unless it is scratched up. I bought a stainless 6" GP-100 back when they first hit the market and love it. It is one of the most accurate revolvers I own.

I tried bumping him up to $225.00 but he wouldn't do it. The only thing is around here you don't see many of them old Ruger Sixes'.

The old six I have isn't as accurate as my GP100 is.

I know how it is trading something off and regretting it afterwards, thats what Im dreading

You might want to think about the fact that it will be harder to replace your Security Six in the future than finding another GP100. I have learned never to get rid of a gun that I like because some day I will regret it. Learned that lesson the hard way. Just out of curiosity, if you already own a GP100 with a 6" barrel why do you want another one except in stainless. If you don't care for blue you might want to see what he would give you in trade for that gun.

Agree with MikeJ ....

You can always save up and get a GP100, but will you find another security six in equivalent condition?

My personal philosophy: NEVER trade in a gun to a dealer!

Every gun in your safe [closet, drawer, pocket, etc] is one that doesn't have to go through a Form 4473 again. You think it is going to get easier in the future?

I too, agree with MikeJ as the Ruger Security-Six is one
fine handgun in its own right!:) I would never think one
i-oda about departing with it. :D Save up some
cash, and buy anything else that you may want.:D :)

I've regretted some trades or sales I didn't have any doubt about.

I've regretted EVERY trade or sale I was even a bit hesitant about...

I like both stainless and blued revolvers. It was mainly that I just wanted a stainless to go with the blued one.

The GP100 I have I wont part with mainly since it was a gift from my wife (X-mas 3 yrs ago) and it was my first gun and it means alot to her also..
I don't know why since that first one led to the second then the third and.......
Thats where the addiction all started from that very first one...
I think Im gonna pass on this one considering I wanted my next pistol to be a .45.

Thanks guys for helping me think...

I would find some other way to get the GP100.Layaway or save or wait.I traded a 1911 Colt Govt.one time and have never stopped kicking myself. Just my 2 cents.

I traded one gun to a dealer and sold one gun to a dealer, never again!!!! I did not get anywhere near the value of the guns I liquidated, but I was desparate for the cash. Dealers will almost always low ball you on a trade in or sale, then they mark up the gun to sell for a profit. That is their business and I do not begrudge them. I have decided that, if at all possible, I will never sell or trade a gun in my collection that I like, and that means all of them! I just save up my money until I can buy a new toy.
