What do you Guys think about this pistol...

Tankist

I just picked up my new toy, it's a NIB 92 Billennium.

Does anyone here have any experience with one of these? What do you think, shoot it or keep it unfired?

This pistol is all stainless but the finish seems to be some sort of nickel alloy, I don't have any other nickel guns. Is there anything I need to be aware of as far as maintenance goes. Also, the grips seem to be a bit delicate. Should I replace them with something more durable? If so what would you recommend as far as replacement grips.

How much do they cost? I think I saw one today in a store but didn't really look at it. Are they for sale yet?

They sell them, but I think the production run is limited. You can still find them though. Mine was around $1100.

Lucky dawg! ;) I haven't yet seen one in person, but they look sweet. Congrats & don't forget to post that range report after you get a chance to shoot it.

Personally, I like to shoot the guns I buy. It looks like everything I would want in a full sized 9mm. Steel frame, frame mounted safety, checkered front and back straps.
Some solvents are bad for nickel finishes, though I can't tell you which ones. The grips are supposed to be carbon fiber, and should be strong enough for use.

Not much, it ain't a 1911.

Just joking, if you like it that's what's important. $1100, I'd spend it on a nice 1911, some customizing and plenty of ammo.

Frame mounted safety and steel frame are unquestionably improvements on the standard 92FS. Checkering is a nice touch - I see the trigger is SA only, but the safety can be "inserted" whether or not the pistol is cocked?

Hmmm . . . it cost $1100. Nice pistol, but the price is a bit steep, and I think the name is goofy. (Maybe it's just me, but "billennium" sounds too close to "billary" for comfort. ;) )

For just a bit more, one can get a Les Baer .45 or a pair of Hi Powers.

$1,100.00 for a Buritto?

LOL

Sorry, I have an E2 and an SBC. No way in hell I'd pay more than the cost of an E2 for ANY Buritto.

Yeah, I'll definitely shoot it. Took it apart in order to lube it before going out to the range for a little test drive. You could tell right away that this is not a show piece. Unlike the 470th anniversary edition, this pistol was made to be shot.

Despite it's pretty appearance it's built like a tank and weighs as much as one too. Feels much heavier then the regular 92FS, which suits me just fine.

Range report coming up soon.

...

Too flashy for me, but that's MY personal tastes. Other than that, it has features that I REALLY dig...single action and frame mounted safety!!

Congrats on your purchase!

I don't know about you guys, but I think that gun would kick large butt as an IDPA competition gun. Very nice, and very nice looking as well.

About the cleaners issue, I've heard that you are not to use any copper solvents (such as the special version of Hoppes #9 that removes copper (not regular Hoppes #9), you can tell a copper solvent from other gun solvents in that the copper solvent usually smells like ammonia). Nickel finishes usually use copper in the bonding process, and copper solvents can damage the finish of a nickel-finished gun (again, from what I've heard).

SWEEEEEET!!! :D

Single action only. The short and light single action trigger pull allows for faster, more accurate discharge of subsequent rounds.

Does this mean you can carry it cocked and locked????

If Beretta comes out with a black duty version at half the price it's likely they'll earn quite a bit of the shooting world's cash.

Oracle,

I do remember hearing something about that. But, since I rarely or never use any copper solvents on any of my guns this one should be safe. Come to think about it, I should probably do a search on that. I'm sure it's been talked to death at least a few times right here on TFL.

Yes, you can have it cocked and locked. Although I doubt anyone would actually carry one of these. Too flashy for carry duty.

I did hear something about them being mass produced in the near future. That version will be a bit plainer but the price will go down as well.

Hopefully it will go into full time production, as Beretta has finally put the safety back in at its proper place. Now if they could put them on their Cougar models in .40 and .45, that would be interesting.
