As you guys can see I am new to revolvers and I want to gain some knowledge. Thanks for answering my questions.

I really can't reply to this question without giggling :o

I like SB for rapid double action shooting. The flare at the bottom helps keep the gun in position in my hand.

RB is good for concealment. I also find RB revolvers with magnas and Tyler grips attractive.

I like SBs for duty weapons. The SB seems to have been so ppular that it is all S&W makes. The Js still have RBs. The grips are so oversized, it is hard to tell. I prefer RB for target shooting. It moulds into my grip well. If it were up to me, S&W would make 32 H&R Magnum, RB, 5", 4 Ts revolvers. It isn't and they don't. They should.

Square.
That's the main reason I don't get any of the newer Smiths.
Smith no longer offers a square frame now that everything is CNC produced.
Even with an adapter, a round but is still a round butt.
(I should say trick grips that are supposed to turn a RB into a SB,,but to me that's an adapter)

In J-frame, square butt with Tyler. In K-frame and larger, round butt.

Same reason for both; fits my hand better. I'm not so sure about your hand - maybe you'd better try that out yourself. See where your trigger finger lands when gripping the revolver normally. Try it both cocked (SA) and uncocked (DA).

What all of us think doesn't much matter, except the comment from one fellow who reminded that one can get large grips for RB, but not such small ones for SB.

I prefer whatever feels best in my hand. I'm thinking about purchasing a new revolver also and I've fired many however; firearms are meant to be held. If you don't feel comfortable with it don't get it. Or check out other grip alternatives. I knew someone with a RedHawk in .44mag and didn't like the stock grips (hardwood) so he bought pachmyr grips for the gun and it felt even more comfortable than before.

Happy hunting

I like square butt guns in S&W revolvers. They hit where I am looking, due to so much trigger time with them. I could get used to a round butt gun in time but I don't see the need. I find no difference in concealment, only in grip index and comfort of the grip.

You gotta take into account that the people who like square butts probably grew up shooting square and are used to them, I have more experience with round butts so I am more used to the feel of them and hence prefer round over square. There is no disadvantage or advantage of either its whatever feels best to you. If they come out with some different grip in the future I will still like the round butts because Im so used to them, dosnt mean that the new grip is bad by any means.

I like the flexability of the the round butt. That being said... many of my guns have the round --> square conversion grips installed.
