What do you get more enjoyment out of shooting? Steel or Paper.

Just idle banter here, what do you enjoy shooting at more? Paper or Steel?

Personally, I really enjoy steel. I practice with my Mosin (Not as much anymore, afraid I'll develop the flinches) shooting a gong (not sure the size)at my local range in AZ at 300 yards.

I like the audible report of when my rounds are hitting. Though, I like shooting paper as well.

I began with paper, to see where the bullet is going, to get my hands trained, the sights adjusted.
Then I like steel that rings, bangs, bends, falls down.
Meat? I pray you're talking about food for the table.

Paper, Steel, Fruit (cantaloupe head shots).

The steel at my range is so shot up; hard to see where I'm hitting; the report is nice though. I need to remember to take a can of spray paint with me next time, remedy our gong.

Paper, when doing load development or when I need to see the groupings.

No way to see individual bullet hits at the 600 yards we usually shoot, so it's steel, only.

Keep in mind, you can always size the steel to the appropriate size for the distance. At the range we frequent, there are 10" gongs at 600 yards- and a slew of 5" gongs...

I'm sticking with the 10"ers, for now...

I do enjoy steel because you immediately know a hit or a miss. Paper is good too, but at long distances you need a good spotting scope (which I don't have at the moment.)

Steel, or anything I can knock down. Can, bottles, cups. I just love to watch something go down downrange.

I think my favorite is blasting away with a .22 pistol at my daughter's baby food jars, they are a small enough target that its a challenge to hit, but it's awesome when they shatter, especially is filled with water :D I also really like to screw off jar lids and turn them upside down so they go flying when I hit them.

But I sure to love the sound of an 8mm Mauser round blasting a steel plate at 100 yards, even more when it knocks the plate down. Sometimes I shoot clays with my rifle too.

I love to shoot steel but it helps me develop bad habits and is not good for me as a marksman. Paper does NOT lie. If you didn't do something right, the paper tells the tale.

Flash

I like shooting steel better than paper. If I ring the bell then that's a bullseye to me. Shooting steel is a good way to develop your flash sight picture because it gives immediate feedback of success or failure of the shot(s).

Paper is for testing ammo, seeing where it prints, Then its time for the steel.

I am talking about handguns only. Rifles get shot at paper mostly.
