What do you all think?

I am looking at picking up a 1911 and had my mind set on a Springfield Milspec. I was on Gunbuyer.com and they are doing a combo deal of a Sig 1911 Extreme paired with a P290rs 9mm for $999.
Now if I wasn't already looking for a single stack, 9mm sub-compact for IWB carry to compliment my Glock 26, I wouldn't be asking this question. So initially my plan was to pick up the Milspec for the 1911 and an XDs for the IWB duties. Either way I go it will be roughly the same price but with the Sig pair the P290 is basically being added for free. Anyway, just looking for thoughts on what any of you might do if it were your money. Thanks, Darrin

On edit it seems to be a moot point, they are out of stock...

Save your money and buy some night sights and gear for your 26.

Or sell it and buy a 19.

Or buy a lot of ammo.

Or buy the Mil-Spec (that was my first 1911).

If you were buying a mil-spec, then perhaps you are a bit of a purist when it comes to the classics. While a dang nice gun, the SIG 1911ish thingy may offend you with its SIG-like cosmetic differences.

I have Springfield 1911s. I also have 1911s of the Rock Island, ATI, etc. ilk from the Philippines. I'm quite fond of those from the Philippines. They make an excellent weapon often available at the $400 mark. That's what I'd get.

You can upgrade the 1911 as you need.

Don't buy a $1000 2-fer gun package 'just because' if you're on a budget and have a gun in mind.

Samsmix,

If this combo package was in stock, Sig's spin on a 1911 would be my only hang up with this combo. I do appreciate the classic looks of the mil-spec 1911's. With that said, I am a Sig fan and know I would still enjoy the extreme and I am also intrigued by the P290.

As for just focusing on the G26, I want a single stack sub-compact that prints less and carry's IWB a bit more comfortably than the Glock. I have thought about selling the G26 for this reason but it still works for conceal carry and I just really love the thing to much to let it go...:D.

I have owned both. The 1911 was a very accurate and fed perfectly. The feel was a little off from mil spec 1911's and for some reason the recoil spring and rod rusted up on shooting Blaser ammo.
The 290RS was a jewel to carry and very accurate and reliable. The trigger pull is difficult to get use to as the pull is long and heavy and the trigger reach is just too short. I have owned many guns with DA triggers but never could get use to this one.
