what do yall think of the ruger single six hunter?

I don't see a lot of the Hunter model for sale used. I would assume that would probably go for a good bit more than the standard model

But like I said I don't know if I have seen a used Hunter (at least not one I looked at too hard) so I may be mistaken

Im having to cough up 630 for mine ( after taxes )

I usually dislike single action pistols...especially 22 caliber.

But there was just something about the extra weight on the barrel that made it balance out perfectly in my hand.

I cannot explain the way it felt. All I know is that usually when I buy a gun it has a specific purpose. This one does not...I just wanted it.

Will be posting pics and a review Saturday :)

I think it's a great gun. I was looking at a single ten yesterday. Like you said, I like the balance and I like the action.

Personally I like single actions, it's kind of what I got into guns with so you never feel handicapped by it if you are used to it. $630 is a good price because I have seen them go for over 700. My first deer was with a single six .357 and one of the most accurate guns in my gun cabinet is the 1976 bicentennial model single six 22.

The hunter rugers are nice guns, but I don't like the extra cost over the standard versions. My old single six will hit what you aim at with the irons out to the effective range of a .22 handgun. If you like the scoped option they're wonderful, but a scoped .22 handgun defeats the purpose for me. Most of my .22 rifles aren't scoped either, but when a scope is called for, I prefer a rifle. Using a handgun scope is a whole different ballgame.

Old grump....i believe the time for me to see the :cool:beauty in single actions is long overdue.

I am really looking forward to shooting it.

Also as I said the others were just to 'light' for me. There was no balance there, but the same could not be said of the hunter..I highly doubt a scope is going anywhere near that pistol :)

It still uses a barrel more suited for the mag. round. Meaning with regular lr rounds it can't be really accurate. Seems very expensive for a .22 field pistol.

The SS Hunter is worth the extra money...to me. Mine averages 1.41" 5 shot groups at 50 yards using a rest and a 4 power scope and 2.25" 3 shot groups at 100 yards. My dad's shoots similarly. I'm not sure, it would be worth it if you didn't intend to scope it though. My best 50 yard 5 shot group is 0.517" and my best 100 yard group is 1.29". BTW, this is using CCI SV 22 LR rounds This is great ammo but far from expensive match grade ammo. Who knows what it could do with some true match grade ammo. Don't buy into the idea that these aren't accurate with LR round. It's not true. Now, is it a match grade competition piece? No. But it is damn accurate for a revolver.

I've only saw pictures of the Single Six Hunter. It has to be more accurate then my 46 year old single six. If I wasn't disabled I would be shooting one right now, without a question.

I want one. Bad. As to accuracy w/ .22 LR's, I'd check out the targets from the Gunblast review. Seems pretty good to me!

I called Ruger once and discussed the wrong size barrel issue with them once. They said they use the same barrels on all their single sixs and after extensive testing they couldn't find any difference if they switched them t the "correct" diameter for 22lr only guns.

I don't see what the big deal is about the hunter.

I guess that's what makes horse racing. I don't like the balance of the long-barreled Single Sixes.

I can only tell you about my 5 1/2 single six new model mfg in 1987 IMMIC. Best shooting 22LR & mag I have shot. I hunt with mine so loading time is not an issue. If just target shooting I would go another route. Ruger MRK II for plinking, JMHO
