What do I do now?

Well, as some of you know, I bought an Ishapore Enfield in the "Jungle" configuration a few months ago. When I bought it it was packed in cosmoline and looked pretty good. I was finally able to clean it up and take it to the range this weekend. When I fired it, I had to hammer the bolt back to get the casing to eject. Upon further inspection I found that the front of the chamber is corroded pretty bad. What do I do now? It has been way too long to return it and other than this problem I really like this rifle. Can anything be done? Your help would really be appreciated.

You can have a gunsmith rebarrel it for you.

1. You might repost this to the "Smithy".

2. A gunsmith could clean up the chamber with a reamer, and set the barrel back one turn for headspace. (I'm assuming the corrosion is, as you said, in the chamber, and not in the barrel.)

Best luck, Art

Before rebarrelling, I think I would try a polish job on the chamber. Use a wooden dowel with a slit in it and a strip of fine (400 grit) emery paper through the slit and wrapped around the dowel. Push the dowel into the chamber and rotate it. This may work if there is only a moderate amount of corrosion, and it can't hurt much if you are thinking of rebarrelling anyway.

Thanks for the advice guys, I will try what Jim suggested and then I will take it from there. George, if this idea doesn't work then I will definetly e-mail you.
