I am curious. We all know that the VP met with Walmart executives about gun control. There have been no announcements from Walmart about any changes in gun policy I think.

Was any press release made on this issue? I have been unable to find any recent press releases from them other than a promise to employ ALL of the unemployed veterans in the country. I am curious where the number one gun and ammo dealer in the country stands on gun law policy changes.

ETA- If you don't know, no need to chime in.

Who knows? But as our nation's single largest employer in a shaky economy, Walmart is far more likely to dictate terms to the President, not the other way around.

Walmart announced today that it would hire 100k veterans in the next 5 years. Interesting timing. Get out your conspiracy theory generators...

That would essentially put at least 4 people at every Walmart that sell firearms out of position. That would be a significant amount of jobs. Big corporations are not in the business of keeping employees that do not have positions, but, most likely would be handled through attrition and backfilling.

Say what you want about Walmart, however they do have a mostly positive impact in communities. Many of my family members have done their time on Walmart rolls.

I would like to know which other ammo outlets have ammo in stock, since apparently they don't have ammo by choice.

I seriously doubt the VP had any intentions of having a "discussion". He wanted to give everyone a lecture. The meetings were pure showmanship.

Apparently, according to a guy named Ivan who answered a phone call from a "customer" there is a "Federal Firearms Act" that they know about but we don't...

I am awaiting official denial or confirmation from corporate (I am a lowly hourly employee so I ain't holding my breath) to share with the gun boards I use...

If his statement is true, it sounds like they got the info from "HIGH UP"...

Rickyrick, you are not correct... no one at the store level will lose their jobs... We don't employ gun or ammo sales persons... Same guy who sells the baseball bats sells the ammo... unless they are not on shift then it might be the little old lady you seen a second ago stocking the pantyhose display...

Walmart has announced they will be hiring a very significant number of Veterans who need jobs. I applaud this and REALLY appreciate the service and sacrifice these men and women have made for our country. I only hope the timing of the announcement is purely coincidental and not aimed to temper a response from the pro second amendment side of their customers. As a group, we are typically very appreciative of veterans.

Patientwolf, I think it is a PR stunt...

Walmart has always (as far as I know) shown preference to applicants who are veterans... And they also make all possible concessions to allow active duty or reservists to honor their military commitments...

I do too. Nice though. Vet unemployment rates have remained high. If Walmart will hire all of them than they are doing a good thing.

My expectations about the world's largest gun retailer being vulnerable to coercion are high.

At our Walmart only about 4 people can sell u ammo or even go behind the gun counter, if one of those guys aren't around you don't get guns or ammo. The only exception being shotgun shells, they are on the shelf next to the coyote urine.

I am guessing it is because the "ammo cage" is also keyed alike with the gun cage??? You do have to do a little training to sell firearms... In my store (ammo only no guns) the only requirement is possession of the keys and ability to read the prompts on the POS screen...

I thought this sounded like a good thing. I'm part of the "long term unemployed." (But I haven't drawn any of that unemployment money for about ten years so don't think I'm a parasite!) I always had a job until I was laid off from an airplane repair plant after 9/11. I've had several jobs since then but nothing that pays anything like what I used to make. So I've resorted to being a stay at home Dad while the wife has a good corporate job. Anyway, I've got 8 years in service to the US Army so I went and looked at the link. Turns out my honorable discharge is no good since it is from 1993. They are only hiring people who have been discharged in the last year.

I'm not saying that's not a good thing. It is! But there are lots of unemployed vets that have been out of the service for a lot longer than that!

The Walmarts around here employ people with disabilities.

As a veteran myself, there is some discrimination against veterans, I've been handed back applications when they got to the military service section. If they don't require me to include work history back that far, I don't include it. There are people out there that have as much problems with soldiers as there are gun haters. I haven't ever taken advantage of veterans preference, I save that for the more deserving than I.
