what country(s) make the best ak-47 mags?

I don't know of any that are truly bad. Some have a greater cool factor than others, like the "waffle pattern" types.

You'd probably want to avoid the Chinese 7.62x39 Bakelites, but those are pretty rare and cost about $60/ea.

I like the Eastern European ones. Compared to the Chinese magazines, they're a bit nicer.

However, of the several I own, most are Chinese (>$10.00).

I prefer the construction of the Bulgarian & East German mags (which are pretty prevalent). Chinese seem to be okay, too, but the others seem to fit the mag wells better.

I have yet to see an AK mag that didn't work well and I have almost every make from most countries. However the one I don't like are those Chinese bakalite because they rattle a lot when fully loaded. The one I like most are E.German ones. Again, they all work well but I just prefere E. German ones.

In my life, I have only seen one AK mag that didnt work at all. It was a ribbed East German mag that looked like it was run over by a tank! Needless to say that was the only reason it wouldnt work.

An Israeli once told me that the metallurgy used by the Russians to make AK is superior to all other countries. Dunno if it's true.

I once ordered a few "east german" ak mags from a reputable company. The ones I got had "made in china" stickers on them. The price was roughly the same so I didn't make too big a deal about it, but the company did send me some more mags for free. I dumped them in the mag pile and now I can't tell them apart, and it hasn't mattered since none of my ak-variants has malfunctioned.
