what calls should i use this time of year?

A call that the other hunters aren't using. Give them something they aren't hearing every morning or evening and they'll be more likely to come in.

Howlers might work well this time of year as the dogs are paired up and will be defending their turf in anticipation of pups being born.

Wounded animal, pup in distress combo might work.

It all depends on your area. Best bet, keep trying different calls. Somethings bound to work.

+1 on scorch's post. Those two calls are all I've used also. Don't over call; the songdogs will get suspicious and hang up on you. Right now the lead dog is territorial and will defend his area against all intruders. If you can make a good challenge call, you might get him to come looking for a fight. Be ready to shoot with very little movement, and make sure you are camo from top to bottom.

+1 Andy, I like distressed pups this time of the year. Even fox pups will get them to come running, 'yotes love the taste of fox and will generally come running for a piece of the action. Challenge calls work well too. And the ol' wabbit calls always work, the females are pretty hungry this time of the year what with their pups and all.

I completely disagree about the camo necessity. Camo is for hunters, not game. Birds are the only game animals I'm aware of that can even see in color. Wear neutral colors (or camo if you want) but stay still.

As far as calls, a variety of things work. I'm not sure where you are located (and it probably doesn't really matter too much) but it is hard to beat wounded rabbits, cottontail or jack, or other squealing rodents.

It also is good to mix it up and throw something different at them from time to time. This is where having a good quality electronic caller comes in handy. You can have dozens of potential calls to use at any given time.

Howlers have never given me much other than locations. So that's what I use them for. Barks haven't provide me much success either. I'm not sure if it intimidates the coyotes or something like that.
