What caliber Handgun would you prefer against a Grizzly Bear?

If i had one of those and HAD to use it for a big brown or griz. Id take a REALLY stout loaded 45 colt

The place i used to teach built a secondary training facility up in Alaska. I got to go up for a summer at the start of that project. Anyway, the ops manager told me to bring a rifle when i came up. The biggest thing i had was a 308 Steyr bolt gun. I thought "what the hell, its better then my 1911"

So the first bear i saw... I looked at him and looked at the rifle slung on my shoulder....looked back at him and thought "I need a BIGGER GUN!!!"

He was about 200 yards away across a pond and I was GLAD for all the water separating us
