So I neglected my shotgun. Its a old beater mossberg 500 with a field barrel I got in trade and have had for a while and just shot it. I had an issue the other day and decided to get it together. The gun is fully cleaned cleaned, oiled, and back up and running but I'm having trouble getting the barrel clean. I tried my mainstays, Bore tech elimilator, bore tech carbon, weapon shield CLP, Lucas extreme duty and I still have a funky looking spot about half way down the barrel. My understanding is shotguns have some weird fouling due to the plastic wadding.

What do you use / what would you recommend to clean the barrel?

For a badly funked 12ga, I use a 20ga brush wrapped in 0000 steel wool doused in Kroil. I don't make the steel wool wad super tight, but just enough for it to work against the fouling spots. I've thought about trying it with Ballistol, but I haven't gotten around to it yet.

Do a search for Ed's Red bore cleaner. It's a home mix product that works better than anything else I've ever tried...

i use a 20 ga brush wrapped with 0000 steel wool(12 ga) and regular carb cleaner on a rod and use a cord less electric drill to spin the crud out and finish with a coating of gun oil.
