what barrel to use

hello,i have a remington 870 super mag combo and i want to mount a saddle mount on it i want to shoot 2/3/4 inch slugs what barrel should i use the longer barrel says 2/3/4 to 3/1/2 inch shell and the shorter barrel says 3inch to 3/1/2 inch any ideas..thanks..

I copied this from Remington re 870 extra barrels - 3" chambers.

"NOTE: Model 870 Extra Barrels with 3" chambers will fit Super Magnum, Magnum, and 2-3/4" receivers. These barrels will handle both 2-3/4" and 3" shells when used on Magnum receivers. Use only 2-3/4" shells when these barrels are used on 2-3/4" receivers."

Greetings backrub21, and welcome aboard.

You can use shells that are shorter than the max allowed by the barrel. Confusion occurs when folks put a 2-3/4 to 3" extra barrel on an old 2-3/4" action. Just because the barrel will accept the longer shell, the action won't. That's what the Remington note, that TheKlawMan referenced, is saying. It seems there are some dimwits who thought that by putting a new barrel on an old 870 would some how magically turn a 2-3/4" gun into a 3" magnum. With your supermag, you can shoot anything you want.
