What are the odds?????

Sighted in my Ruger American 7mm-08.. When I was done I took a few shots at this steel plate at 200 yards.. I was standing and leaning the gun against a tree.. I shot five times. When I got up there I was amazed..Not by my accuracy by any means. But how in the world did I get two touching shot groups???

Well, considering the grouping, I don't imagen anything is wrong with the gun. Possibly the scope you were using shifted? How far off from the point you were aiming?

Side question.....how do you like that caliber? I've been looking into a sako that's a 7mm-08. Been told it's much like a 308

The shots were at 200 yards and I couldnt see any detail with my 9 power Red field. I was just aiming for center. It was also a fairly windy day. Under the circumstances I would have been surprised to have two shots near each other but to have two different groups touching to me is crazy...

As far as the 7mm-08 goes it is new to me but I like it so far... I wanted a lighter rifle with manageable recoil and it fits the bill. My only complaint is the selection of factory ammo.
It is hard to find anything other then 140 grain. If you reload there are lots of options...

Well, maybe you are a better shot than you give yourself credit for ;).

I'm looking for a new deer rifle. Ive been shooting a 270 for a long time and just wanted to try something new. The sako I found was a good looking gun which is why I looked at it to begin with. Saw it was in a 7mm-08 and started doing some research. Just couldn't find anyone that had shot it. I did notice there is not a lot in selection to the round. Looks like Ill be buy some new equipment for the reloading kit :).

The 7mm-08/ is a great deer gun, but then again so is the 270... I think the main advantages are lighter gun lighter recoil.. I wanted something light for treestand hunting... I used a 94 last year and had to pass up bucks that were out of range...

"...leaning the gun against a tree..."

Was the stock touching the tree, or did you perhaps use your gloved hand as a cushion?

Where did the 5th shot go?

What size is that steel plate?

Too many unknowns/variables to form an opinion. Or am I just being too nit picky?

My arm was braced against the tree...I think the first shot was high...I didn't know the distance and was holding over.. Plate is about 15"-12" But honestly I think this was pure luck and no facts are needed to see that..

I prefer "statistical anomaly" over luck ;)

That is a pretty crazy way for things to work out, though. If you were able to repeat that then you might look into shooting form, but I don't think it would happen again.
