A friend of mine and i were wondering whether our 1938 Turkish Mausers saw combat or not. What are the odds that they did? They are Hale marked Mausers if that helps.Thanx:)

Turkey was neutral in WWII and AFAIK no Turkish soldiers saw combat. Turks who fought in Korea were armed with U.S. M1 rifles. There was some fighting on Cyprus, and there were internal disorders at various times, but the odds are against any given rifle being used, even if that is considered "combat".

Trop, I made some research, and must agree with Jim Keenan. Am afraid the butts of your rifles saw more 'combat ' hitting the backs of political dissidents than their barrels.:o

I buoght the nicest 20 of 35 1903 Turks for $50 I saw at BIG5. They are worn.

Now BIG5 has 1938 Turks for $50. They are all nicer than the #1 1903 that I found.

If those 1903 Turks have not seen action, then peace is Hell.

Hold on to it a while and there's a good chance that it will see combat in this country. ;)

i can think of many different rifles(ar ,ak etc.) that i would rather have if this country sees civil combat.

AteaM, 1938 Mausers were made by Mauser itself and CZ(BRNO). they are as good as any of the best. Beware turkish mod.1944. Steel not well heat treated, and accuracy very iffy.

As someone who owns several of all five, walk past the beat up 1903 Turkish Masuers and buy 1938 Turkish Mausers, Brno VZ24s, 96 Swedes, and 34 Swedes.

My favorite for conversion are the VZ24s.

Still, I have converted a 1903 that is great, but the 1903 stock bores stink. Most of the VZ24 bores stink, but not all.
