What are the best manufactures of scope base and rings?

What are the best manufactures of scope bases and rings? Has anyone heard of D.D. Ross and Badger? If so, what do you think of them? I want to set up my new .308 for long range shooting, somewhere in the 400-600 meter range. I am told whatever I do, do not buy cheap base and rings. Thanks.

Well Josh, A lot of bench rest shooters use the cheap weaver set-up. I usually use leupold but don't really have a preference. I think that most of the mounts and rings made are of decent quality. The main thing is having the scope mounted correctly. The rings should be lapped to take any pressure off the scope. You may also want to have the reciever rethreaded to accept 8X40 screws. Other than that check with a benchrest shooter and see what they are using.
