What are the Benefits.......

I have a few Beretta's mostly 92's and 96's and they are great shooters each one. I was told that changing the springs would make the weapon(s) shoot even smoother. I was on the Wolff Springs site today and now I am curious (keeping in mind that the factory recoil springs are 13 lbs ) what are the advantages/disadvantages in the following:

PERFORMANCE PAK - Beretta 92/96 series full size contains 1 each 10 Lb. reduced power recoil spring, 15 Lb. extra power recoil spring, extra power firing pin spring and 18 Lb. reduced power hammer spring.

Should I change the Recoil spring to say a 15lb or 16lb and be done with it ? I would really appreciate any input you might have, thanks!

W]hereas, to preserve liberty, it is essential that the whole body of the people always possess arms, and be taught alike, especially when young, how to use them; nor does it follow from this, that all promiscuously must go into actual service on every occasion. The mind that aims at a select militia, must be influenced by a truly anti-republican principle; and when we see many men disposed to practice upon it, whenever they can prevail, no wonder true republicans are for carefully guarding against it.

Firearms manufacturers spend $millions researching, engineering, designing and testing their products before placing them on the market. The public (and various law enforcement/military agencies) buy the guns and immediately find the 'bugs'. To my knowledge, recoil & firing pin springs are never mentioned as being the origins of problems.

If you wish to fire above/below normal-powered ammunition, go ahead and change out the springs (always use the appropriate firing pin spring when changing recoil springs); otherwise, the factory springs are fine. The replacement springs will help keep the ammo from battering the gun (+P & +P+ ammo) or will allow lower-powered ammo to cycle the pistol.

Thanks Lawman, I appreciate the assist. I take it that changing a 13lb for a 15 lb recoil spring is really not a problem since most of my ammo is a little hotter than standard? (albeit not much) Some one also suggested using a Colt 45 trigger spring as it will smoothe out the trigger pull? Any Ideas?
