What are some superformance loads?

I currently have a 30-06 Springfield, .338 win mag, .243 win, .270 win, and a .300 win mag. I just recently started reloading and I have a pound of Hodgdon Superformance powder and it has been difficult for me to find reloading data for this powder. Does anybody know of any good loads for these calibers in Superformance?

I did quick check and it appears that your powder (superperformance) will only work in the 243 (from the cartridges you listed). This is not uncommon as I use IMR 4350 for my 270, 300, 7mm mag and others for my 450mariln and 243.

I have several different powders including IMR 4350, but I am mainly interested in getting 3150 f/s out of my .270 using a 130 grain Hornady SST. This is because I have a Tasco VZR (Vital Zone Reticle) scope and it is ballistically matched to a .270 win 130 grain bullet at 3150 f/s. You sight the scope in at 100 yards and the aiming points below the reticle correspond to 200, 300, 400, and 500 yards. I think that it is going to be a handy feature when out in the woods hunting, but first, I have to get the 130 grain bullet going 3150 f/s. I have the following powders:

-IMR 4350
-IMR 4831
-IMR 4831sc
-RL19
-RL22
-HSuperformance
-IMR 4064

I automatically thought that superformance would have the highest velocity, but I am new to reloading, so anything that will get a 130 grain bullet going 3150 f/s safely is what I need.

You have to try the H4350, it's accurate and fast, I don't have a chrono or good memory so you'll have to check book velocity with this powder. I get super repeatability, and accuracy from around 53 grains, with almost any 130 grain bullet I shoot through my rifle.:)

From my "Loadbooks USA" for the 270 WIN, there is data in the Hornady section for RL 22 that provided me with a velocity of 3160 fps (approx) using the 130 gr. Interbond and CCI large rifle primers, with no pressure signs. I would prefer that you obtain the load recipe from the original data, rather than quote the data here. The results were fairly accurate in my Winchester model 70 push feeder. Point is, with that powder you may achieve what you are looking for. BTW, my rifle has a 24 inch bbl.

I achieved 3200 out of my 270 w/130 Nosler's. (Chronographed near its muzzle.) Shots were fired out of my (Rem Mtn rifle.) I know the reload isn't the easyiest on my barrel. But in my experiences with Nosler Ballistic Tips up front at that velocity. (above) It sure is one gnarly hard hitter on anything that particular bullet comes in contact with. Good luck with your quest Sir._:)

I've been using Superformance powder in the .243 and it works as advertised. Based on my experience I emailed Hodgdon and asked if any load data would be generated for cartridges other than already listed on their loading website. The response was that there would be no other loads listed as no benefit was derived with that powder from any other cartridges and that no other types of Superformance powder would be released to the public for handloading. You're out of luck on the .270.

Reviewing Hodgdon's data, the only powder that gets close is Hybrid 100V.

130 GR. BAR TSX Hodgdon Hybrid 100V .277" 3.240" 52.2 2994 55,700 PSI 55.5 3144

Alliant lists Reloader 17 as able to get 3258 fps with a 62gr charge with a Speer BTSP.

Accurate lists Magpro: Magpro 130 BAR TSX 65.3 2,925 72.5 3,250 62,300 2.792

Ramshot lists three loads for Hunter:

Hunter 130 BAR MRX 51.3 2,833 57.0 3,148 64,210 3.210
Hunter 130 SIE SBT 49.3 2,803 57.4 3,185 64,700 3.280
Hunter 130 HDY SST 51.3 2,829 57.0 3,143 63,430 3.230

Based on that data, I would recommend MagPro and Re17 as your first choice, since you are looking for a velocity 100fps less than the velocities listed for the other powders which are max charges. I don't like running a max charge if I can help it, just a personal preference.

Both MagPro and Re17 are double based, and are more "temp sensitive" than something like H4350, but in terms of temp stability you would be looking at a difference of around 80 fps change from 0 to 100 degrees F. If you can live with that, then I'd develop a load that gave you 3150fps at whatever your "normal" hunting conditions are, which are different for antelopes in Wyoming verses elk in north Idaho. Honestly a 40 fps difference plus or minus isn't going to throw off your ballistic reticle enough to cause a miss at the ranges ticked off.

as per Hornadys 8th edition ....

30.06
165-168g superperformance min. 53.3 @ 2400fps to 61.6g for 2700fps..(23 3/4in barrel 1in10 twist.
178-180g (same barrel and twist) 53.2@2300fps to 59.4g @2700fps
190g 49.5@2200fps to58.5 @ 2600 fps
220g 48.3 @ 2000fps to 54.6 @ 2300 fps

all with same barrel.

nothing for any of the others.

Hey all, just wanted to clear a couple things up. Based on the burn rate of superformance it is usable in the .270 and 30-06. Using this powder quite a bit I can tell you that it's pretty finicky but it does work really well. The reason there's not much load data out is due to the agreement between hornady and Hodgdon that no data will be posted if the powder doesn't out perform the others by 60 or so fps. Nosler and Hodgdon lab verified.

Reloader 17, Reloader 22, H4350, MP2000, will all likely get you close to your desired velocity. However, in a 22 inch barrel, it is going to be hard to match the settings on that scope. God Bless
