What are my firearm options in 357 sig?

Shot a pistol in 357 sig last night and now I think I want one. Only thing is, I fired a $2000 custom and if all I bought were custom guns, I'd only have 1 gun ;) So, who makes a nice pistol in 357 sig?

Off the top of my head, Glock, Sig, Beretta, and HK make pistols in .357 Sig. Gun Tests compared Glocks and Sigs in the August 2001 issue. It particularly liked the Sig 239: "Though other guns mentioned above certainly are worth the money, we gave this gun our highest accolade--we bought one for ourselves."

Glock 31/32/33.

Sigarms, originator of the caliber, makes several good pistols in .357. P239 for CCW, Sig Pro, P226, P229.

Taurus 957.

H&K USP, compact or fullsize.

Beretta Cougar 8357.

My original inclination was for an HK USP, but the compacts are tough to find and the fullsize conversions just aren't realiable from what I've read & HK never made a fullsize USP 357 sig.
So, I'm searching...

I have the following 357 sigs: Glock 31, 33 and 24 with a KKM barrel in 357.

I have owned 2 Sig 229's, Sig 239 and a Sig 229 Sport. A Browning HP converted from 40 to 357 sig.

I like the Glock 31 the best of the full size guns and the 33 the best of the sub compacts. I am also fond of the Sig 239 and 229. The sigs are more accurate in slow fire but less so in rapid because of the long trigger reset and the top heavy slide inducing too much muzzle flip.

The 229 sport is a really nice 357 sig. It has a "target" grade trigger (which I really like). All stainless steel and good adjustable sights. I would not try to carry it, but for just fun (!) at the range or hunting it would be great.

It seems like not many of us have them, but those that do sing there praises.

I have the 229 in .40 that I bought the 357sig bbl to drop in. Shoots great, and it's almost a 2for1. Mags and springs remain the same.

For the custom feel for about a grand, a SIG 229 Sport would fill the bill quite well. For around $650 you could get the stock 229. My favorite gun is the 229. (have two, .40 S&W+ 357 SIG) Good luck in your decision. .....Whit

I've thoroughly enjoyed my Springfield XD. It's an XD-40 but I occasionally drop in a 357 SIG barrel. I prefer the .40 myself, but it's a good shooter in either.

I will echo 12-34hom's statement. Definitely worth it to find one! I lucked into one at the local shop that they couldn't seem to sell. SIG would be a close second for me. There are some listed right now on gunsamerica.com.

For some reason HK doesnt list it in their USPC listing on their web page but it is in the text of the web page!?!? See:
http://www.hecklerkoch-usa.com/pages/civilian/uspCframeset.html

Notice no page for the 357SIG nor is it in the specs at the bottom of the page. But it is mentioned in the 1st paragraph. Someone stated that HK was making more mid-march. See kidcoltoutlaw post:

So I don't know what the deal is.

H&K compact + Barstow barrel. = nice.

Here one of these days, i'm going to order a Barstow 5.5 inch barrel, and have it fitted.

That would be sweet!

Kermit:

The KelTec P40 with the .357 SIG barrel direct from KelTec makes a great carry weapon at a low price - about $300.00 total. If you can't find a P40, you can get the P11 and the get the .357 SIG conversion kit. This will cost a little more - $340.00 for the P11 and another $150 or so for the conversion kit (new slide, barrel, springs, and guide pin). It's accurate, small, and reliable.
