What AR15 brand is best?

Just wondering, which AR15 brand, Colt, Armalite, Bushmaster, etc., do you find the best, as far as fit, accuracy, and warranty? And also, do the recoil compensators do much? If so, which style works the best, (AK, Y-comp, Armalite`s version)? Thanks Bruthas!CHARLEY HESTON FOR ONE MORE TERM!

If we are talking new rifles, of the major brands, the best in my experience are Bushmaster and Armalite.
If we are talking pre-ban rifles, the most accurate are the Colt Blue Label guns, while the most "mil-spec" are the Bushmasters.
Yes, the muzzle compensator does something...it makes your rifle incredibly loud. I would rather not have one myself, at least on a 223, which has next to no recoil in the first place.

Without a doubt, no matter what anyone else says. Its BUSHMASTER BUSHMASTER BUSHMASTER BUSHMASTER.

More advise: Do Not Buy A Kit Gun From Anybody. Get It Already Put Together By The Factory.

With regards to machining and quality, Colt is the best. It's also the most expensive of all and has a lot of non mil-spec parts (larger pins for trigger and hammer pivot pins, *#@!& auto sear block which also prevents using a normal semi-auto bolt carrier, and on some models, larger pivot pin which isn't readily detachable). The next best up for large scale production are the Bushmasters. However, every now and then Bushys seem to have problems.

Don't overlook the newer LesBaers and other makers though.

I've owned Colts and fired Bushmasters. I now have 3 Olympic Arms, CAR-type, both pre and post-ban.
The Olympic's have the best factory triggers I have ever used. Bolt/carriers on all three were
a little rough, so I sent them to Robar for NP3 coating. Have had no problems with feeding, ejection
or accuracy with thousands of rounds fired.

FWIW - Deffinately stick with Armalite or Bushmaster. I have two Bushy's and for fit and finish they are the best. They function extremely well and are more accurate than I am.

I've also handled many Armalites and say the same about them, though I haven't shot nearly as many...

I also have a Colt. It works just fine, and it's fit is good, the finish too, but the stamping on the side is dissapointingly shallow - can hardly make out the Pony and the serial number is hard to read - Some would say all the better :D I don't. It's shody and Colt's fault. The gun does work as expected though! (great shooter)

I wont say which is best but I will say the highly recomended companies are Armalite, Bushmasster and Colt. After those I would say DPMS for custom Bull Barrels.
I own 2 Bushamsters and and Stoner and have never had a problem. I also recomend the use of USGI MAGS and save the headaches.

Why?

What better way to understand how your rifle works than to build it yourself? With a kit, all that's needed is to assemble the lower. Anyone with a modicum of mechanical ability can do it.

I own an Oly Arms as well, and have been very satisified with it.

That being said, from your list I would probably select Bushmaster.

I own a Bushmaster which shoots superbly. I have heard that Armalite may have a small advantage in quality. It would really have to be good to beat my Bushmaster.

For the 50th time

Bushies......................

I repeat for the visually challenged..........NO USA manufacturer makes a milspec rifle anymore for U S consumption, EXCEPT BM.

This includes COLT.

This, again is not to say the others aren't ok, or may be more accurate with chromoly barrels, or SS.

But, for long life, less down time, and real Crap in the rig performance.....there's only ONE left.

Colt chose to take themselves to hell, and started making their rifles like ALL the other "Matching Upper, & Lower guy's.......
Plastic cleaning compartment covers, oversize pins, blocks, non mil-spec parts if fire control group.........

Repeat quickly....BUSHIE< BUSHIE< BUSHIE< BUSHIE............:D

Ok here goes. Ive owned both a Colt and A Bushmaster. Overall, I would choose a Bushmaster........with some reservations. I beleive that colt's quality control is better than BM. I had to send my BM back for repair (shot left, and was short stroking) service dept was excellent and my gun is now the best AR in the world:) I understand that colt's service dept is almost non existant, can't verify that though.

Colt has lowered the quality of parts that go into their AR. Plastic where metal should be and non mil-spec pins ect. But colt seems to have fewer initial complaints. The Bushie is all mil-spec and has a very high quality feel to it and the fit of the upper and lower receiver is as tight as it gets. I was out the other day with my BM 20" A3 upper no scope yet

Lest we have a misunderstanding. How many SP1s is Colt producing now?

When I said SP1, a bell should have went of in your head that I didn't mean a post-ban POS. Anybody that buys a post-ban and calls it an AR15 ain't wrapped too tight, imho.

If I wanted to own the closest thing possible to the M16A2 I was issued, then what would be my post-ban options? Pre-ban?

Preban or postban, closest option would be a Bushmaster XM15E2S in the normal-profile 20-inch barrel.

I own several different rifles from Colt, Bushmaster, Olyarms,
DPMS, and Armalite. Out of all of them I prefer the DPMS.
It has a nicer finish than any of the others. It has a teflon over the parkerizing which gives it the deepest and most durable finish than any of the others. They also use true military parts and just not built to mil-spec like some of the others. Their quality control is very high and their customer service is second to none. DPMS also offers armorers and instructor courses to give a full circle of support for the products they sell.
There is an EM16/A15 armorers and instructors course sponsored by a local sheriffs dept here in the Minneapolis/St.Paul Minnesota area at the end of this month, if anyone would like info contact me via e-mail for details.
