What am I doing wrong??

Cobra 4-6

I've been shooting handguns for many years. About 4 months ago, I picked up an HK USPc 40 NIB. It's a great gun, but...I am constantly shooting low with it. I was under the impression that HKs shoot true right out of the box.

I use a Chapman stance and am fine with my other guns. Is the caliber, the gun, the ammo, or me at fault? And, how do I find out which?

If you'e shooting some of the lightweight .40s (135, 145) that may be the problem.

Try some heavier bullets and see how they do.

Make mine lean, mean, and 9x19!

The .40 is noted for its brisk kick and the USP40C probably accentuates it. I say probably because that's the only .40 Iv'e shot. Mine does shoot true ... and did out of the box. You didn't mention how low it shoots. Maybe it's the sight picture? When I aim mine, I get the three dots up on the same line and put the middle dot in the middle of the "X". You also didn't mention what you've been shooting for years ... if it was low power pistols, you might just be getting used to the recoil. If you've already been shooting .357's and the like, and it's not the sight picture, then I second the suggestion from CR Sam ... have someone else shoot it. For what it's worth, I shoot hot 135 grain reloads and 145 grain factory loads to the same point of impact with the sight picture described above.
Good luck,
Bill

get snap caps and have someone else load a magazine with a few snap caps loaded randomly in with live ammo and so you don't know when you will get to the snap caps. then shoot the gun and when you get to the snap cap if you see the muzzle dive down you know you are flinching and thats the problem.

Sgt. K is right on the money. You need to obviously determine if it is "operator error" or not. The best way to do that is to rest the gun to eliminate the operator as much as possible. If it is not shooting low off of the rest, it is you. If it is shooting low off of the rest, it is not you. Good luck.

Regards,
Frank
