What about this?

The Ward-Burton was made by Springfield Armory, which is why SA inspector Erskine S. Allin and sub-inspector John W. Keene have their initials on it. IIRC, it was an SA development and Burton was an SA employee. It was in .50-70 caliber and was tested by a Board in 1872 along with dozens of other rifles. It was considered good enough that 1000 rifles and 300 (?) carbines were were made for field trials. Unfortunately, it proved fragile in troop use, and ultimately the Allin trapdoor design was adopted as the Model 1873.
