What about these lasers in the FLGR?

I keep seeing these ads for a laser sight that is inside the guide rod and was wondering if this is a decent product. With all these lights and lasers dangling off the dust cover, I could see the potential payoffs for something enclosed. However, it just doesn't strike me as a sound design.

Anyone ever see one? Ever try one? Thoughts?

I have one of these LaserMax guide rod lasers on my S&W 5906, and mine has functioned exactly as advertised. After 3 - 4 hundred rounds I see no battering or any sign of wear. I haven't had any problems with it at all and my gun still fits in my holster normally. What I like most is that it doesn't have to be adjusted since, as your new guide rod, it is already perfectly parallel to your barrel, so at 25 yds your bullets hit just a hair above where the dot is. There are a couple features I don't like - it's small size sacrifices some laser power, meaning the dot isn't as bright as the HotDot laser I had. Secondly, the way the on/off switch is located won't allow you to turn the laser on and off without taking your finger off the trigger, since the switch replaces the slide stop. I preferred the movable pressure switch on the Hot Dot I had better, but, of course, it wouldn't stay sighted in so I got rid of it. Therefore, when trouble darkens your door, unless you wanted to run around with your Lasermax on more or less permanently, you have to make a conscious effort to flick it on just before you make your shot. Another annoying quality is the ease with which the laser can be turned on (and left on!) accidentally when laying your gun on a table. So, although it's nice, if buying again, I like the versatility of the Laser Grips by Crimson Trace as they have pressure switches, which can be turned OFF when not needed.

Good Luck!

I wonder if one of those would be a step up from the plastic guide rod on a Glock....But then there is that rail there that you could put a laser on, they must not want you to replace that thing. :)

Is the lasermax changeable? I don't think I like the idea of swapping out my slide stop, and won't, but doesn't the company have more models? The Crimson Trace grips are nicer, imo, but I'm still wondering about this GR laser.

How long is the battery life in a laser sight?

If by changeable, you mean will it fit in different guns ... no, you have to buy the model that fits your gun. As for Glocks, the rumor has always been that they needed that plastic guide rod for "flexing" during recoil; Glock ones are the only Lasermax complaints I've heard. As for battery life, it's pretty good on mine, though a couple times I have accidentally left the laser on and run the batteries down. Again, although Lasermax is high quality and durable, I would still try the Crimson Trace first as it has most of the Lasermax's advantages with the bonus that you don't have to modify your gun.
