What a difference a spring makes! (SA 1911-A1 9mm)

Went to the range yesterday. One of the pistols in my bag was my newest, a Springfield 9mm. I posted a thread a couple weeks ago about the stock spring. Most feedback and my own hunch said it was about 14#. I replaced it with an older 18.5# (probably closer to 17.5#). I was concerned about short cycling but 200 rounds later those concerns were abated, no reliability problems. Recoil went from almost nothing to absolutely nothing. The sights popped right back on target. Pretty damn cool. One thing though when shooting at 25 yds the POI was noticably lower, about 2". I didn't realize the spring would affect the pistol that way. Then again maybe it was me.

I bet that's not your real last name, Shot.

Interesting. Springs always make a noticable difference in the recoil feel and the trajectory of the brass. Maybe the reduced muzzle flipkeeps the bullet on a lower path? Just a guess.

Regards.

My bet would have to be that you are anticapating the
recoil and pushing the gun forword. Have someone load
a mag up for you at the range and have them put in one
or more dummi rounds in it. That will tell you if that
is what you are doing. That is what we would do with a
beginner to show them what they were doing.

Had a similar experience with mine. Had a feed problem with the stock spring. Went to a heavier duty and everything is jake.
