I have a freind that asked me if I was interested in one. I like that new Taurus tracker but if I can get something similar for cheaper why not? Does anyone know what model S&W has made in 45acp?

Model 25, 1955 Target .45 ACP. Yep, pretty dog'on good.:D
Full target model with 6.5" bbl, produced from 1955 to 1991.

( I think Sam met M-1917 ). Some things just work better than any others, like the 125g. .357 for thumbing a person's body, Porche 911s for zooming around a corner and the .45ACP cartridge in a S&W N frame revo. Even one that is not up to spped will still out-shoot most other handguns on the planet, revos for sure, and at lead over 200 grains it's a WIN-WIN.

Yes, I've had/have a few and won't ever be without one for long....dewey

About 25 years ago I bought a brand new 1955 target. It was a beautiful gun. I shot it once and decided I had to sell it. I found the .45 ACP such a "wimpy" cartridge in that big gun it was like shooting a .22 revolver. For some reason I like a little more reaction when I pull the trigger than "pop."

The S&W 45acps are without a doubt what the cartridge was designed for. It's a crying shame to waste that caliber on a pistol.

And the 1917, 25 etal are not good, they are GREAT.

I have been searching frantically for a .45 ACP revolver and have yet to see any of these models. Who currently has any of these models available?

I have an S&W 625 with 3" barrel, .45 ACP, moonclips. It's a blast to shoot, and it's really cool having a round that fits both an auto and a revo!

S&W still makes these, and Taurus also has a selection.

S&W .45 Revolvers

You can find .45 ACP revolvers by S&W in the 1917 model, 1950, 1955 model (M25) and later 625 models.

All are wonderful shooters, exctrmely accurate and mild to shoot.

I like the 1950 best of the bunch, but the 1955 is not far behind.

If you will watch Auction Arms and Gunbroker you will see these pop up fairly frequently...just have to watch and wait...and have your money ready.

FWIW
