what 357 do I want?

I want that Crimson trace lasergrip on a short 357 mag stainless. Looks like I can do it to a Ruger and a Taurus. The stubby just has my attention lately. Don't want to go S&W cause all the dough. This Ruger 2 1/4" barrel (sp101) or the 3 1/16 barrel sure look good, don't know which way to go though. Then I look at the Taurus, I can do it to a model 605ss. Geezz...any input sure would help. I just want it bedside ya know, the doorway is just 15-20' if the bad guy comes in. Whats better Taurus or Ruger?

I don't know your background, or how noise sensitive you are, but have you dealt with the flash and noise of a .357 MAG sans eye and hearing protection, especially in the nighttime housing environment?

To answer your question though, I would certainly choose the Ruger. Excellent piece IMHO.

I had a Taurus M85 for two weeks. Traded it back in on a SP101 .357 stainless. One of the best moves I ever made. The Taurus is a POC compaired to the Ruger. IMO of course (added so as not to offend anyone :D )

Remember, you can always shoot .38+P; it's what I carry for CCW.

Take a look at the "Goodby Taurus" post a little ways down.

sp101 w/38+p

Cheap, easy, fast, reliable...

It will fit most size paws and speed loaders are cheap.

If you want as little recoil as possible, go with a 38 or 38+p.

If you feel a 357 is required, get a bigger frame with smaller barrel.

I have shot smith, ruger, and taurus...they are all about equal in the same situation.

The reason I dpnt rec the m85 is that grips may be tough to come by...

taurus 605

I have the taurus 605 stainless, combat grips. I love it, my wife loves it, my son loves it, everyone loves the smooth trigger. Over 500 rounds thru it, hasn't fallen apart yet. Get a new one at a gun store, if there's a problem, you have a person to go to. let them handle the warranty. I keep it loaded with 158gn jsp-fp magtech 38spl. more than enough, and very accurate at up to 40ft. IMHO. ;)

Had an SP101 and sold it out of necessity of the financial kind. Although I had some tweaking to do on it, I still really liked it. I miss it, even though it was sold to my brother (of course, he is the biggest a*****e I know). But to tell you the truth, I might prefer to get the GP-100 next chance I get. The SP101 was pretty damned big for a compact and only held 5. I enjoyed the powerful .357 loads the most and although the SP101 handled them just fine, I figure the GP-100 might just be better suited for the purposes of my .357 niche.

Taurus or Ruger? Easy get the Ruger. Its American. Its reliable and well made. If you should happen to find the need to get rid of it the resale value is higher as well. With all the being said I prefer a S&W for all the same reasons above, but there is nothing wrong with a Ruger.

I've got the SS Taurus 605 and love it. That said ... I love Rugers too. I chose the Taurus for price; I wanted an inexpensive carry piece that I could depend on for my life. Wasn't going to use it for my main target shootin' piece or a plinker; just wanted a dependable carry gun for as little $$ as possible.

After many hundreds of rounds it has my full loyalty for dependability.

That said ... I also love Rugers. No wrong choice. Save some $$ and buy the Taurus or spend a little more to support American workers and (possibly) get a better gun and buy the Ruger.

I chose to save the $$ on the carry gun and use it for other weapons.
