Hi folks-list newbie here.
A little background first, as a way of introduction.
Always liked shooting, just never got around to purchasing a firearm. Bought too many motorcycles. A few years ago, the itch got too bad to ignore, so I bought a Ruger KP-512 22/45. Love the little thing. Then the itch for a rifle got strong, and being as I don't have much $ (too many bikes), I wanted something cheap to shoot that had a little power. Found a used SS/synthetic Mini 14 that looked to be unfired. Did I say it was cheap? Having a ball now!
The large caliber pistol itch got me after shooting a friend's P-89 and .44 Super Redhawk, and my son's Taurus PT-111 (can't wait to fire his H&K .40 USP compact). I wanted a KGP-161 in .357. Well, me being cheap, I figured Ruger has this $40 rebate, now's a good time. Wanted a P-series in .40 S&W. Intro/blab mode off.
Here's my question.
The local shops had no Rugers in .40 in stock. But, the shop where I bought my .22 had a used P-89 in 9mm. Slight holster wear around the muzzle, and a little on the right side. Felt/looked good otherwise. I'm no expert, give it 85-90% on looks. TWO hi-cap mags and Hogue grips. $250. I wrote the check on the spot. As little as I will shoot it, I felt cosmetics meant nothing, I'll have some fun now and then, and it makes a decent home defense weapon. Not to mention a self defense weapon (if needed) while on my m/c trips to middle BFE. I figured I couldn't really go wrong. They also had an identical pistol, looked almost new, but only one clip, and stock grips for $295.
Been lurking a while, learning a few things. No BS here like on some lists.
Whaddaya think? Did I buy the "wrong" pistol of the two? I don't mind either way, wanted some opinions so I can make a better (?) decision next time. I think I have it bad. BTW, thanks for the bandwidth.
